More Fashion To Love

More, More and More Fashion for Summer; and Summer evenings when it sometimes and I said sometimes, gets cooler. These days are so nice and warm. We are lucky that we have temperatures that are doable and not sweltering like in other states right now. Seattle has the best Summers. I suppose that’s why we have so many visitors during this time. I see them everywhere and they look happy with our weather and they seem to think Seattle is the best. Little do they know, if we had weather like this all the time, our population would triple. Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Facebook have brought in enough people as far as I can see. Our city is booming and building and I think I will stop here…… With this kind of weather comes fun things to do in Seattle, like remember The Bite of Seattle?

The Bite of Seattle, one of Seattle’s most iconic food festivals, returns this summer to Seattle Center after a three-year hiatus. Over 500,000 guests will enjoy an elevated experience and taste bites from 200 of the region’s finest restaurant and specialty food purveyors. Seattle's premier foodie festival, The Bite of Seattle, returns July 21, 22, and 23 at Seattle Center and celebrates its 38th year! Featuring 200 vendors, 50+ musical performances, beer gardens, and more, Bite of Seattle is fun for all ages. Festival goers will enjoy bites from local restaurants using the CHEQ app to place mobile orders. I can tell you this….....you are going to need something cute to wear for this event. It’s outdoors and you will be having fun in the sun, eating and enjoying Seattle’s best food and drink. There will be MUSIC as well, with a festival lineup including performances by Sir Mix-A-Lot and Polyrhythmics. The weather forecast shows the temps are in the high 70’s. Perfect, right? We have the most fashionable attire at Meadow for this event. I promise. Dresses, shorts, tanks, fanny pack bags, earrings, tops, jeans, light sweaters, crops, a little of this and a little of that. Picture perfect fashion for the day! So happy the Bite is Back!

What’s new at Meadow Boutique this week?

We know you need something new. That’s why we are here and will always be. Meadow is a place where you can find fashion like what you see below. New pieces every week, only 6 and typically no reorders except for Dreamers sweaters, some denim and bags.

Shelley always seems to find unique pieces you don’t see around town. She has quite the eye for fashion, in case you haven’t noticed. Some of you never stopped by our Meadow space on Crockett and 6th. It was huge, like 1200 sq. ft. We had so many interesting pieces and so much space. Many of you have been visiting Meadow since we first opened, 13 years ago, and then we have many new customers who ventured down to our other space and were delighted to find us now. Everyone has questions about Meadow Boutique. The general consensus is that the clothes are lovely and the quality is superb. I have seen many of you come back again and again every week without fail. You always find something that makes you happy and enhances your physique. For this, we are extremely grateful. Meadow is a small, woman owned business, and much smaller now in the pop-up. Summer Time Arrivals

It’s Summer and time to make sure we have all of our Summer time essentials. With warmer weather comes a shift in our approach to dressing. Every year, the first few days of summer feel eternal and unfamiliar. There’s a sense that the season will never end but also that it’s never existed—as if none of us have ever felt the humid air sticking to our freckled, sunburnt skin. That sense of newness seems to apply to our wardrobes, too. The perfect summer outfit is more of a feeling than a trend, and it’s one we want to capture before the season is really in full swing.

What do you feel like wearing this season? Shorts, rompers, dresses, tanks, jeans, jumpsuits? Whatever you decide, we have it at Meadow Boutique. I promise you that. The Boutique is full of Summer from one side of the shop to the other. Every week there is something new to try and pieces like you have never seen around town. That’s the beauty of Meadow, six of each, and never the same pieces over and over again. There’s never a worry of being caught with the same piece someone else has on in town. And the prices, let’s not forget about that. It’s so nice to be able to buy some clothes that don’t break the bank, especially for Summer! I never spend a lot of money on clothes because I wear them for a few years and then donate them. I have worked at Meadow for 4 years and the majority of my wardrobe has come from Meadow, no regrets, oh how I will miss working here…….but all my Summer wear will travel with me to Mexico. And when I come to visit family in Seattle, where do you think I will shop? That’s a no-brainer. I am a Meadow customer for life!

What’s new for Summer at Meadow Boutique this week?

RISEN Jeans has 2 colors that are quite Summer-y. There is a pink and green pair with a flare and cut off at the bottoms. Super cute and stylish for Summer. ZENANA has a super trendy utility romper that could have a place in your wardrobe. JODIFL has a lovely, red bold top that reminds me of the Hawaiian Islands. LES AMIS with a floral top that matches perfectly with any bottoms like shorts or jeans. GILLI with its signature rompers, jumpsuits and dresses. These pieces are so flattering and never wrinkle when packed away in your suitcase for any weekend getaway, or trip to some foreign lands!

Many of you ask about the building we were in previously and when we will return. We will head back there when it is fixed up and ready for us to assume our space that we were in for 13 years. Cool Whites For Summer

Here we are engaged in the beautiful days of Summer. The weather is unbelievable. You might wonder why I always talk about the weather in Seattle. I think I have said before that I really light up when there’s sunshine. It changes my whole outlook on life.

I moved here when I was 14 from the midwest, it was 1975. I was amazed about the size of the trees and the style of the houses. When I was young I didn’t notice how much it rained. As I got older I noticed. The months of drizzling rain got to be too much. We left every February for a beach somewhere in world. So when my husband was offered a job in Denver, we jumped at the opportunity. All we could think about was the 320 days of sun a year. We lived in Denver for 15 years and while there was not very much green like in Seattle, there was sun. There was no ocean, but there were rivers and lakes. Everyday no matter how cold it was - it was sunny! People were nicer, people were happier and people were smiling. Long story short, sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy. That’s a John Denver song, I think. I have often thought of getting a tattoo of a sunshine on my shoulder. With this amazing weather we are having now, I am sporting an amazingly lovely disposition!

I have been told all my life that wearing white will keep you nice and cool. With so many mixed messages surrounding how to wear white, when you can wear white, and how you should do it, it’s no wonder that so many of us seek the comfort of a dark color palette. Forget everything you’ve heard about these pseudo-stringent rules (“no white after Labor Day,” etc.), and embrace wearing fresh whites at any point during the year. Yes, summer whites may be the most intuitive, as they include the breezy linens like button-down shirts and the cotton dresses we typically take with us to the beach. We love how layering different shades of white and eggshell make for a fresh combo, no matter which dates our calendars display.

There is always something for everyone at Meadow. The prices, hands down, are the best on the hill. I have shopped the hill and I know. We have so many lovely shops on Queen Anne, that’s for sure. Many of you come in and are amazed at the prices. Shelley knows how to shop the best pieces and with 14 years under her belt, she knows what her customers want. She shops for you to keep the prices down without taking away from the quality of the garment. Shelley’s a genius when it comes to Fashion. Colors of Freedom

Colors of Freedom? That would be red, white and blue! We have plenty of these colors right now in the Boutique. You must come and see what we have hanging on our racks for this holiday weekend! Soon fireworks will be flying high in the skies to celebrate our independence. Why not wear those colors with pride? Beyond this holiday these colors will work for Summer, they are light and bright and warm and fuzzy, trust me!

I would venture to say we have a lot of freedom. The five basic rights of our freedoms protects: speech, religion, press, assembly, and the right to petition the government. Together, these five guaranteed freedoms make the people of the United States of America the freest in the world. Let’s not forget this and let’s be kind to others opinions and feelings. We will never agree on everything and that is OK. At least in my younger years, it use to be OK. These days it seems we have lost a bit of our ability to be more kind and considerate of each other and who we are as individuals. So, on this Independence Day, let us all be a good family member, friend and neighbor, and embrace the freedom we have! Bring on the Fireworks! Celebrate each other and our Freedom!

If you walked by our door on Tuesday and Wednesday at Meadow Pop-Up, we had a very stunning boho dress and top in red and white. These 2 pieces were a super fun match together or separate if you so desire. I tried them on and thought the pieces would be perfect for July 4th! I could be the bell of the ball for sure. I picked up the floral red dress (already sold out practically) and added the top that is striped red and white with red bows in the back. I turned the back to the front, and voila, you have quite the trendy outfit. I bought it and I am wearing it that way! Red lipstick and I’m as good as fireworks at a 4th of July barbecue.

What’s new at Meadow Boutique this week?

There’s a variety of different labels this week with great pieces. HEM & THREAD, EN CREME, CHARLOTTE AVERY, BLU PEPPER, BLU IVY, SUNDAY UP, LALA FACTORY and TNR Denim. BEAST Black slip-ons have been added to our shoes. Easy to wear and they go with Summer fashion! This week everything seems so timeless. Crochet is the word for this week. We have quite a few crochet pieces that are really fun to add to fashion you already have. Get creative! I have worn pieces like this throughout my life and loved every minute of the styles. Check out the pieces below, there are so many ways to interchange them. I have only showed you one way, but my mind was spinning with other ideas. Shelley had quite a few different ideas for those crochet pieces.

Summer. It’s Official!

It’s absolutely, positively, officially Summer! Are you happy? Are you excited for some nice weather? We sure are! There is nothing better than Summer in Seattle. I know I have said it time and time again. It’s so true, and this year I shall cherish it more than ever because next year I will be in a place that it will be Summer all year round. I use to make fun of those snowbirds that would go somewhere warm in the Winters. I never understood why they would leave their home to go somewhere warm……but now I do.

The colors of Summer are so fun and exciting. For some of us, they are shocking from our normal black, beige and grey. We have those colors at Meadow just in case you can’t make the change, but we would love to see you venture out in some other colors that make you feel like sunshine. You should stop by and see what we have, try something on and see how you feel. Pink is a color that I have recently tried. It was quite bright and I was skeptical when I put the pink top on with my jeans. There were different shades of pink in the top so it went well with my skin tone, etc. Every time I passed by a mirror I had to do a double take, but then there were compliments. Compliments go a long way when you are unsure, right? Needless to say, I made it through the day and decided that adding some color wasn’t so bad. Now, a few times a week I am getting away from that black, grey and beige. It makes make-up kind of fun too. I am also adding some brighter lipstick colors to what I have to brighten things up as well. So, at 65, if I can try something new, so can you and when I say new, I mean new as in color!

Which leads us to what’s new at Meadow Boutique this week?

BE COOL with the colors that we all seem to wear in Seattle. GILLI has some delightful jumpsuits in a lovely green floral and a black and white floral. JOLIE has a wrap, tiered dress that has some interesting fabric in the tiered areas. Really cute with a slight open back. CES FEMME with a colorful, coral, spunky dress. INA with a light coral, eyelet skirt. Then, last but not least, DREAMERS sweaters in lots of great colors. As we know, we still need a little something in the evenings to throw on when it’s cool. Just have a look below and see all the fun fashion Meadow continues to carry for your buying pleasure.

For many of you, your kids will be out of school soon, vacations will ensue and life and the weather will be spectacular. Don’t forget to stop by to pick up some Summer attire from Meadow. Dressing Up For Dads

You know its time to look at Dad this weekend and put him on that sky high pedestal. Father’s Day is a time for people to celebrate the men in their lives. For children, it is a day to show appreciation for their fathers and father-figures. For adults, it is a day to show much they love and appreciate the hard work of the fathers and husbands in their lives.

There are a variety of ways we can celebrate our fathers. We can purchase them special gifts, take them to see their favorite baseball team, give them a day to spend on the golf course, or simply buy a card that tells them how awesome they are. Another way to celebrate Father’s day is to host a cookout for all the fathers in the family (e.g., brothers, uncles, and grandfathers). If you do not live close to family, you can also host a neighborhood block party to celebrate the fathers in the neighborhood or gather with a few close friends who are fathers.

Oftentimes, we think of mothers as sentimental, but fathers like to hear how much their children love them and why they think their fathers are great. They like to be the superheroes in the story—the ones who save the day and make their children’s and spouse’s lives better. That’s not hard to do, right? Telling our fathers how much they mean to us not only makes them feel good but it warms our heart too!

We think you need to dress up and celebrate, no matter what Father’s Day is for your family. We have lots of great pieces at Meadow Boutique that would suit the days events. We also have Father’s Day cards you could grab on the way out out the door after finding that outfit. Summer Fashion Arrivals

How is your closet looking for Summer? Do you have all the pieces you need? There is so much to choose from here at Meadow Boutique. There is something for everyone. From tanks, to tees, to shorts, to hats, to bags, to sandals, to jeans, to rompers, to jumpsuits. It’s all here! Oh and the colors are so Summer-like. You know Summer starts June 21st, although with the weather we are having, you would think we were already there. It’s so nice to start out these months so warm and sunny. I somehow wonder it’s because I am leaving soon and Seattle wants me to remember how beautiful it can be before I move on to Mexico. No matter what, I am extremely grateful I moved here at 14, ended up in school, in college, and married, raising my children here.

Seattle is truly a beautiful place. So you must have the clothes to strut your stuff in the Summer here. It’s a whole different place then it use to be. People like showing off their style and posting themselves on Instagram & Facebook in every part of the city, in every season, no matter what their age. I love seeing how all the girls and women put their different pieces together to create their own unique style. It gives us so many ideas on how to style fashion. What new at Meadow Boutique this week?

ZENANA with some Summer dresses and a super sweet romper. GILLI takes the cake with a lovely blue flowered jumpsuit that is so flattering for any body type and also another jumpsuit more utility type. Love it! Very fun style. Jumping Into June

I can’t believe it is June! The year is flying by. Soon kids will be out of school and vacations will ensue. The weather has certainly cooperated. Less rain. More sun. No complaints here. Just loving the longer days of some sun and warmer weather. This is the time for planning those patio Happy Hours and Barbecues with friends. You might want to get those dates on the books while the weather is holding out for us. Funtime Summertime!

In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky. This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe. The June solstice occurs on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 10:58 A.M. EDT. The Summer Solstice is the day with the longest period of sunlight. You will notice how the Sun appears highest in the sky at the solstice; its rays strike Earth at a more direct angle, causing the efficient warming we call Summer. Are you ready, we sure are! There’s really no place quite like Seattle in the Summer.

The next question is, “Do you have the fashion you need for Summer?” If you don’t, what’s your excuse? We are Meadow Boutique, and we are located right in the heart of Queen Anne in Wink Hair Studio. It makes perfect sense to stop by Macrina, next door, grab a cup of joe and some treats and stop by Meadow. We are literally 2 doors down. We have so many fab Summer pieces. You can’t miss our flowery sign we have outside to show you the way. Some of you haven’t stopped by yet to see our new spot. We are pretty settled in, with your typical Meadow fixtures and designs by Shelley. There are new pieces each week. Not kidding.

You may think we couldn’t possibly meet the demand because of our downsizing, well, you would be wrong! Even though our previous space was 4 times the size, we have packed in 4 times the product for the size of our space now. It’s delightfully full with really wonderful fashion. Don’t take my word for it - come by and see for yourself. We want to see you hopping and skipping thru the streets with new fashion from Meadow! Bring on Summer!

Memorial Weekend Arrivals

It's the unofficial start of summer—filled with the promise of sunny skies, warm weather, and a three-day weekend stretching before us. Often, we gather with family and friends on Memorial Day for a backyard barbecue along with red, white, and blue desserts, a patriotic playlist, and maybe some fireworks. Or, we might set out on a weekend road trip or plan a few nights under the stars at a favorite campsite.

But it's important to remember that Memorial Day is about more than burgers and better weather. First and foremost, it is observed in remembrance of those who fought—and died—for our freedom. In their honor, you might fly the American flag or read some famous Memorial Day quotes to help you reflect on their sacrifice. Whatever you have planned for this weekend, make sure you are dressed for it. Dressing cute and comfy so you can participate in any Memorial Weekend activity.

We will be taking care of my 15 year old grandson, Logan, this weekend while his parents are in Mexico. We will have fun hanging out and doing what 15 year olds like to do. YIKES! Feels Like Summer

I think John Denver summed it up in his song he sang in 1971 - Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy - Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry - Sunshine on the water looks so lovely…..Sunshine almost always makes me high - OK I will stop now. LOL

You gotta love this weather, right? Such a beautiful blue sky and warm air swirling around us here in Seattle. Love the warmth, love the sunshine, love the bright colors surrounding me at the desk in Meadow’s Pop-Up. In the grocery store the fruits and vegetables are even looking more colorful. We know we usually don’t have Summer until July 5. We’ll take it - how could we not? I love to see Seattleites smiling and in a good mood. I am going to take a leap here and say it’s because of the warm, sunny weather. Please, just let me believe that. I am tired of grumpy mean people out in the world. When it rains, well, I don’t think its good for us all the time, 8 months to be exact. OK, OK we are focusing on the superb weather at this moment right now and right now is pretty darn good and a bit early for us! I am sure you are looking for your sunglasses you bought last year, stop by and grab a pair at Meadow. They seem to be selling like crazy. Get out there and enjoy this weather while it lasts. June is right around the corner and soon it will be Summer for real!

What’s new this week at Meadow Boutique?

LOVE TREE this week with some cute little dresses, nice flowy pants and a light jacket for those cooler nights on the water. It does seem to cool down in the evenings here for now. The material is a linen blend and tencel also in the mix. SM WARDROBE with a lovely little dress with birds on it - so sweet and a airy top that will pair nicely with jeans or shorts. JODIFL with a flower top full of life and color. ANEMONE in with those great bralettes we have always had in the past and nice little crop tops in distressed looking material. There's some new denim shorts too by BLUE AGE. You better get them while the getting is good - they will sell out fast.

I was thinking the other day of many of you that I haven’t seen since we moved to WINK Hair Studio. If you haven’t stopped by to see us since we moved, please do. I miss seeing some of your smiling faces and warm greetings that you always shared with us. We still have great pieces and new ones every week as you can see by the blog photos. We are still in Queen Anne and we aren’t going anywhere - we will wait til our old space is ready for our return. We hope it’s sooner rather than later. Meadow is For Mothers

Remember when the Peace Corps adopted the slogan “The toughest job you’ll ever love”? No offense, Peace Corps, but that adage is more appropriate for motherhood — a job that is ever-changing and frequently exasperating. Moms don’t get days off, nor do they receive handsome salaries or generous pensions. Instead, their rewards come in the form of sticky kisses, necklaces made of elbow macaroni, and the satisfaction of seeing their children grow up to be happy, healthy adults. That’s probably not adequate compensation — so give Mom an extra hug or a special gift on Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May.

The undying love and selfless sacrifices of mothers are returned with some royal treatment of them on Mother’s Day. It’s the day to pamper the queen of the household herself! Think gifts, breakfast in bed, hand-drawn cards with stickers on them, a shopping spree or spa day, the works!

Most common traditions of the day include the kids and dad taking over the house chores and cooking for the day, spending extra time with mom, and buying mom traditional gifts like flowers, jewelry, or an item that she has had her eyes on for a while. There are great sales and discounts across several stores and restaurants, as well as special deals only for mothers. Movies and episodes related to mothers or Mother’s Day are aired all day long, and talk shows and segments featuring celebrity mothers. Speaking of celebrities, mothers are the stars of the day, so their photos are all over social media.

It’s May. It sure is. The weather is changing and so is our attire. It’s time to slowly shed those heavier sweaters and jackets and start choosing some lightweight pieces. We would like to mention that it is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and it is observed in the United States during the month of May, and recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

Enjoy the sunny days ahead. They are here and there, tucked in between cloudy and rainy days, and oh how we relish them. I have to say, by making my own observations, people are much happier when it is sunny. They smile, they chat more and they want to buy new clothes. When you work in a boutique, that’s the icing on the cake. The people that want to shop and try on new things. Maybe try on pieces they wouldn’t normally chose. It’s so much fun. I get just as excited as our customers, when they find something that really makes them happy. Last week it was the HYFVE green jumpsuit that was in the window. It sold out in 2 days. Women came in, tried it on and loved it. Many said it wasn’t something they would normally chose, but lo and behold, it tickled their fancy. Don’t forget why we are here…….to help you step out of your comfort zone and try something new, whether it be a new color or style. Oh Sunny Days

Here we are at the end of April, and sunny days are starting to shine our way. Congratulations, Seattle! We made it through one of the coldest Aprils in recent memory. We are heading right into May this week. YAY! I don’t know about you, but I am pretty happy because I have just returned from Mexico where the temps were in the high 70’s. There’s quite a different feeling when people are out in the sun, they seem happier, they are smiling and even friendlier. That dose of Vitamin D certainly does our body good. I think I even heard whistling the other evening when I left work and was locking up. It was sunny out and it was still light at 5pm. I looked around and it made me smile. It isn’t getting dark now til around 8:15 pm. Oh the joys of the changing of the seasons here in Seattle.

Yesterday one of our customers and her little dog brought me some flowers from her garden for my Birthday. It reminded me of how the little things that happen to us randomly during the day can become big things in our life. As I type out this blog, those flowers are sitting with me at my desk, and they smell amazing. I am so lucky to have the connections I have made at Meadow and that someone that shops here, cares enough about me to drop by some flowers from her garden. It made my day. It made my week. It makes me happy. It warms my heart and makes me smile. Is there something you can do this week to make someone feel like I do? And to think, it could be just as simple as picking some flowers from your garden and taking them to a friend or a neighbor or even just handing them to someone you pass on the street. April Showers……bring May flowers. That’s for certain. I am witnessing it all over the Seattle neighborhoods. The rain, I mean and now the flowers are coming and by May, well, we will be almost in full bloom. Love, Love Love, the colors of Spring! It’s a wonderful time of the year full of new life and new beginnings in every sense of the word. It's not only that the trees start blooming again and the leaves, flowers and birds seem to burst into life again after a long period of resting. In the same way, rebirth is also happening in our bodies. This is a time when your body is naturally increasing in energy. There is something about the warm weather in general that beckons us to come alive. It calls us to embrace our primal side.

April is just the beginning of everyone coming out of their shell; becoming more extroverted and social. For a moment we remember what it feels like to be a kid, we play more, have more fun and realize that life is fleeting – but in a good way. We are more apt to seize the day and make the most of each moment. Much like New Year’s resolutions, Spring is a time of renewal and new beginnings. In our hurried, fast-paced world, it is easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life; we forget to stop and smell the roses.

Here are ten suggestions for new beginnings and renewal:

Get eight hours of sleep.
Get 30 minutes of physical exercise daily.
Take 10 deep breaths when something overwhelms you.
Drink water instead of sweetened beverages or soda.
Eat more vegetables and fruits.
Say affirmations in the morning and at night.
Surround yourself with positive people; negative attitudes can drain your enthusiasm.
Do something nice for yourself.
Take time to reflect upon each day.
Treasure every moment.

I know I am preaching to the choir, but it is always good to have a bit of a reminder of ways to make life a little easier on us with the changing seasons. We also have Earth Day coming up so let’s make sure we give the Earth all of our love and care on April 22. I will be in Mexico, celebrating my Birthday, swimming in the ocean and being grateful to be here another year. I usually try to plant a tree or flowers, or do a hike and breathe in all the wonders of nature around me. See what you can do this April to renew and rejuvenate your life!

It’s time for me to sign off. I have to pack my bags for Mexico. I hope your week is amazing. I know mine will be as long as my flight doesn’t get cancelled and my luggage doesn’t get lost. Anything can happen these days, but I am optimistic. Life won’t do this to me now, not when I am turning the ripe age of 65! The Universe conspires for me to lay in the sun on the beach, with a lovely margarita and the ocean breeze blowing my hair in the wind. My mind will be clear and my life will stay calm. The Colors of Easter

Oh the colors of Spring will be hopping around town this weekend! There’s good news for little bunnies everywhere: Easter egg hunts and other Easter activities are happening soon! A harbinger of spring for many young ones, Easter events are plentiful this year. Although most are free, some do charge a fee and require advance ticketing. Always check websites before making family plans and have a hoppin’ good time!

Spring Egg Hunts 2023 at Seattle Community Centers

Take a look at the list above and find one near you! Most egg hunts are for kids 11 and younger but always check before hopping down. Bring your own bag or basket to collect goodies and eggs! When my kids were young, they loved going to Easter egg hunts and dying those eggs. It was a fun celebration in our household. Then there were the plastic eggs where we all put in little surprises. So much fun. Enjoy this Easter, whatever you decide to do.

I don’t know about you, but we are ready for some warmer weather. Spring is here as far as the calendar goes, so where is the warmer weather? Meadow Boutique has some great colorful pieces to add to your wardrobe for Spring! The color of Easter eggs. No kidding. I guess we will have to throw on a jean jacket or light coat until the weather gets warmer. On a brighter note, the daffodils and cherry trees are blooming. That gives me hope. Seattle is so beautiful when everything starts to bloom. I am looking forward to all of that happening in the sunshine. There seriously is no place more beautiful than Seattle when it is sunny.

Blooming Life In April

In the northern hemisphere April is a most confusing month; rainy and wet one day, the next full of a warm promise of green growth to come. Besides the weather, the month is full of surprises and contradictions, prized for rebirth and endings, and a birth month to amazing geniuses. April awakens from her winter snooze and blows a cool but not chilling breeze over the earth. The flowers join the re-awakening and burst open their blossoms. People embrace the outdoors in temperatures that are neither wintry nor sultry. Animals appreciate the longer hours they have to graze.

You must love April. It is just like life.

It’s truly my life for sure. I was born this month on the 22nd, Earth Day. It’s a big year for me. I will be 65 years old. No, I am not playing an April Fool’s joke on you. It’s true, 65 is just a few weeks away. Next year at this time I will be packing my stuff and getting ready to move to Mexico to retire. It’s weird to think about this time in my life. We never think about being this age when we are younger. We just revel in the fact that we are young, working in our desired field of study, buying a home, having kids, and then all of a sudden we are grandparents, and we are watching life happen around us. Our kids grow up, they go to college, they leave home, they go through the same things you did. Then all of a sudden you look around and you have an empty nest and you and your husband look at each other and high five for the next chapter of your lives. You aren’t really sure what that will look like, but you just go with it. It’s funny how we are newbies at every stage that we experience…..we learn, we grow, we prosper. April makes me feel all these things. I love April. It’s who I am. It’s where I started. And now I am here. Thanks for being part of my journey. You have truly enriched this time of my life here at Meadow Boutique. I appreciate each and every one of you who have crossed my path.

April is also the time for Cherry Blossoms here in Seattle. Those colors are amazing on all the side streets in our communities and at the UW Quad. The seasonal colors of Spring are much like the season itself - light, airy hues that are comprised of pastel versions of the colors of the rainbow. Inspired by the melting snow that brings the first blooms of the season and traditional Easter tones, Spring's seasonal colors include the following: Pale peach - Blush pink - Mint green - Baby blue - Cream - Light gray - Soft yellow - Spring green - Lavender. As I look at the racks at Meadow, we have all of these colors. Come by and take your pick.

What’s new at Meadow Pop-Up Boutique:

SNEAK PEEK has 3 different style denim jeans. One has a button front, one distressed (slim straight), one a baby blue (kick flare). So darn cute and stylish for Spring. Designer Jeans Movement

Gloria Vanderbilt created the designer jean movement. The brand was established in 1976 between Gloria Vanderbilt and Mohan Murjani. It was the first major jeanswear brand launched by a woman, for women. Originally recognized for its iconic fit and signature swan logo, Gloria Vanderbilt has sustained the test of time and is still one of the largest denim brands in North America.

The jeans owe their popularity to Vanderbilt herself. Not only because she was the spokesperson, but also due to her unflinching commitment to fit, quality and style. Vanderbilt never sacrificed one for the other. And that resulted in a jean that was as sexy and flattering as it was comfortable.

Today, many tout Vanderbilt’s jeans as the first true designer jean and the first skinny jean. Vanderbilt was also among the early designers to include sizes that, today, would be categorized as juniors and plus-size. Even the though the first day of Spring was March 20, it’s still jeans weather. What is your favorite kind of jeans right now? We have so many kinds now since Gloria Vanderbilt first started her designer jean line. There are skinny, wide leg, relaxed leg, flares, straight leg, bell bottom, crop, cutoff, distressed, and on and on. It’s nice that they are mostly stretchy and high waisted. No matter what your age, you can be certain that any style will work for you. Jeans do not have an age limit. You wear what you fell comfortable in. Period.

When I gaze up at the shelf in my closet, because of working at Meadow, I have every kind of style to chose from out there. I like them all, really. I chose my mood, then I chose my jeans. Then I chose my shoes rather it be loafer, booties, boots, tennies or sandals. What would the world be like without jeans? There are so many different ways to wear them these days. I wear mine with short dresses, crocheted dusters, blazers, sweatshirts, oh so many ways. It seems anything goes with jeans these days. We have a few different kinds right now at Meadow and will surely get more next week I am told in petite and average height. We are clearing space now for their arrival! So stop by next week and check out the new jeans.

What’s new this week at Meadow Pop-Up?

Spring sweatshirts are in from ZENANA. They are stylish and have pockets in a variety of colors. LOVE TREE with a couple of jackets in beige shades. Black linen like wide leg pants with a think elastic waistband and a thin elastic wait band, take your pick. There is a ROKOKO dress and BLU PEPPER dress this week. I have to say after making my way around Queen Anne, we have some of the best prices in Seattle. Everything is great quality and priced reasonably. I recently ventured out to Snohomish with a friend. We walked up and down the streets venturing in and out of cute little clothing boutiques. I always check prices and labels to compare to what we have at Meadow. There was only one place that had some of the same brands and prices as Meadow and that was way out in Snohomish.

So, I say enjoy the pieces we do have, the prices, the new pop-up space and the amazing selection that Shelley handpicks every week, especially for you. Some of you have come in this week looking for the little girl section for gifts. We don’t have that right now. We are slowly adding back small portions of what we did have in our bigger space. Wrap Dresses Make History

This week we want to highlight Diane Von Furstenberg. She is a designer with a true underdog story. She survived the Holocaust in 1946 and then met her now husband Prince Egon Von Furstenberg and became a Princess in 1969. She took the fashion world by storm in 1974 when her famous wrap dress debuted. Her wrap dress design has been inducted into The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Collection and The Smithsonian. Now the fashion designer is committed to women’s rights across the globe.

Upon its creation in the early 1970s, Diane von Furstenberg’s wrap dress style was highly sought after by everyone from the Studio 54 lot to the Park Avenue crowd. And even today, it’s so versatile that actors and royalty wear it as much as business women, academics, and journalists. The original design was a long-sleeved silk jersey dress featuring a fitted top and a skirt that wrapped around the body to tie at the waist. Feminine yet functional, it responded to the liberated mood of American society at the time, during which more women joined the workforce and opted for suit jackets and trousers.

The time of year for dresses is right around the corner. We are getting them in slowly but surely. The colors are getting lighter and brighter in hopes the weather will get warmer. Our pacific standard time has jumped ahead an hour and it is staying lighter in the evening past 4:30. This seems to mean that the seasons will be changing soon. We are ready for it. I have to say I am a little tired of 30 degree temps in the morning. I use to make fun of snowbirds, you know the old folks that flock to warmer weather in Winters. Now, I am in that age bracket and I am cold and a bit cranky. So I will be flocking to a warmer climate next year like all the old folks do……yes, you heard me right.

We have lots of new earrings in all shapes and sizes. You have to check them out! LOVE TREE, CIELO, LES AMIS, 2 HEARTS and BIBI all have new pieces in the boutiques this week. See for yourself below. There are pops of color everywhere as you can see.

We love sharing our space with WINK Hair Studio. We have met so many more lovely people who love to shop Meadow and our customers who love to shop hair products or need a new hairdresser. It seems to be a win win for both of us. The other day the place was full for WINK and Meadow had some customers trying on some pieces. It became a party of women giving their opinions about the try-ons and hair being done. Women really do benefit from being around other women that uplift and support each other. I witnessed it with my own eyes. It was a sight to behold. It’s pretty amazing to see women together giving each other love and respect……just because. We need more of that in the world, but if we can have it in our own little spot right here in Queen Anne, then we will take it! So you never know what you might get when you walk through our doors. Fashion Meets History

This week we honor Vera Wang for Women’s History Month in Fashion. Vera Wang is one of the most iconic wedding dress designers in the world. She not only designs stunning wedding dresses but also gorgeous gowns and incredible evening wear. She’s had a very interesting career and life.

Vera Wang is a household name and one of the most inspiring and successful famous female clothing designers in the fashion cannon. She has a corner of the bridal wear market, making her a top women dress designer that is a must for every bride to be to look into for their wedding day. When it comes to giving advice to women in any industry, she says to uplift other women, not intimidate them, and to go into a field that you are passionate about so that it helps you through the difficulties of life. It is easy to see how passionate Vera Wang is about fashion design, as she has made a huge success for herself in her life.

In her college years, Wang worked in the Rive Gauche boutique on Madison Ave as a summer job. After college she worked on the editorial side of Vogue, staying at Conde Nast for 16 years. At age 40, Wang decided she was going to design wedding dresses and got into business with David’s Bridal. Her most famous clients are the likes of Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, and Chelsea Clinton. In addition to her celebrity clients, she also designed for the masses by selling dresses at Kohl’s. In recent years Wang debuted a plus-size wedding dress collection, bringing inclusivity to designer bridal fashion.

We are getting in many colors of Spring. We know the weather is still cool, but we just need to see those magical hues that make us feel the change of seasons. Women Make History

Coco Chanel was a French designer and a businesswoman who ruled the Parisian haute couture for about sixty years. She is known for the classic innovations, including the quilted purse, the woman's suit, the “little black dress,” and costume jewelry. She was nicknamed “Coco” during her years as a singer.

We salute all women for Women’s History Month, but here we will highlight a few women that made history in Fashion for the Month of March.

Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. The organizers selected the week of March 8 to correspond with International Women’s Day. The movement spread across the country as other communities initiated their own Women’s History Week celebrations the following year. In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation declaring the Week of March 8th 1980 as National Women’s History Week.

As I am writing this blog, I am thinking how Meadow Boutique and Shelley Hall have made history in a way. Besides being a women owned business in the Queen Anne neighborhood for 13 years, Shelley has survived the COVID restraints that lasted 3 years and now a fire in the building that lead us to a pop-up at Wink Salon. History is the study of change over time, and it covers all aspects of human society. I think we have created that here in Queen Anne. Thanks so much helping us make history. All the amazing women we have met have made a contribution to Meadow Boutique’s history, so for that, we thank you.

If you haven’t been by to see the Meadow Pop-Up, you must stop by and have a look. Some have commented that they like it better because it’s smaller and it makes it easier for them to decide what to buy. There’s a little bit of everything at the pop-up and you will be happy with what we have to offer. There’s always something new like before, so don’t be discouraged of the size of the shop. Wink Hair Salon has been a great place for us to be part of for now. Rebecca and Leslie have welcomed us with open arms and for that we are grateful. It’s funny how things work out, just when you think things have gone up in flames, you find warmth and comfort in a new place. We look forward to seeing you soon and showing off our new Mini Meadow! xoxoxox
