Here in Mazatlán, Thanksgiving looks a little different—and that’s what makes it so special. This year, I’ll be seated at a long table that holds 35 people. Some I’ve known for a couple of years, others I’ll be meeting for the very first time. And that, to me, is the true magic of living in Mexico. While Thanksgiving isn’t traditionally celebrated here, we expats gather anyway—not just to keep the holiday alive, but to honor its deeper meaning: gratitude, connection, and the joy of creating family wherever we are.

Settling here, our family is the one we’ve built—friends who became neighbors, neighbors who became friends, and all the beautiful souls who found their way to this sun-kissed corner of the world. We may be far from where the tradition began, but around that long table, surrounded by warmth, laughter, and new connections, it truly feels like home.
