Well, Seattle, you did it.

One minute we were pretending Summer might hang around forever, and the next we’re looking out the window thinking, Where did I put that jacket?

Cool mornings. A little rain. A surprise patch of sunshine. And afternoons that somehow feel completely different from the morning. Someone flipped the switch. Fall is here.

You know the kind of morning. You look out the window and it’s gray. You check the weather and it says rain, so you get dressed accordingly. Then 2:00 in the afternoon rolls around and—surprise!—sunshine.

Welcome to Fall in Seattle, where getting dressed can sometimes feel less like choosing an outfit and more like preparing for several completely different seasons. So what exactly are we supposed to wear? Layers, friends. Layers. That’s what I always loved about Seattle is the fun of all the layers you can add to your outfit and then remove them if necessary. Makes getting dressed so much more fun.

And fortunately, the new arrivals at Meadow seem to have gotten the memo.

The Seattle Outfit Formula - The trick to dressing for a Seattle Fall isn’t predicting the weather. We’ve pretty much given up on that. It’s putting together an outfit that can change right along with it.

This week, Shelley has brought in some wonderful lightweight sweaters that are practically made for this time of year. We’re loving the relaxed silhouettes, easy necklines and especially those gorgeous fall neutrals—mocha, chocolate, taupe and soft brown. They’re cozy enough for a cool morning without making you feel like you’ve jumped straight into January.

Pair one with your favorite jeans and you’re done. Or take that striped chocolate-and-cream sweater and add the new brown corduroy pants. Now that feels like Fall.

And can we talk about corduroy for a minute? There’s something about it that immediately says the season has changed. The rich chocolate color of these pants makes them an easy alternative to denim, while still being neutral enough to wear with almost anything.

A Little Preppy, A Little Playful - We also love the black sweater with the contrasting cream collar. It has just enough of that classic, slightly preppy feeling without taking itself too seriously. Pair it with trousers or jeans, or have some fun with a skirt and boots.

That’s really the point. Fall dressing doesn’t have to mean wearing the same sweater-and-jeans combination every day. Mix things up. Try a stripe. Play with proportions. Put a polished top with something casual. Let one piece do something unexpected.

And Then There’s the Jacket - Of course, every Seattle Fall wardrobe needs the layer you can grab on the way out the door.

The new utility-style jacket is exactly that kind of piece. Throw it over a sweater when the temperature drops, wear it over a lighter top when the sun makes one of its surprise appearances, and keep it nearby because you know perfectly well the weather will change again before dinner.

That’s the beauty of a good fall wardrobe: the pieces work together.

One Great Piece Can Change Everything - You don’t need to replace your closet every season. Sometimes adding one great new piece is enough to make the things you already own feel fresh again.

Maybe it’s one of these soft sweaters. Maybe it’s the striped knit. Maybe those chocolate corduroys become the pants you reach for instead of jeans. Or maybe it’s the jacket that suddenly works with half the things already hanging in your closet.

There comes a moment every September in Seattle when you walk out the door in the morning wearing a sweater, regret it by lunchtime, take it off, carry it around all afternoon, put it back on at 5:00 and wonder why you didn’t bring a jacket.

Welcome to Fall. And this week, it’s official. Tuesday, September 22 marks the first day of Fall, which means we can finally stop pretending Summer is going to last forever. Although, knowing Seattle, we may still get one of those glorious sunny afternoons that makes us believe otherwise.

Meanwhile, down here in Mazatlán, I’m writing about sweaters and layers while still trying to figure out how to wear as LITTLE clothing as socially acceptable for a 68 year old. September in Mazatlán is hot and humid — the kind of humid where you walk outside and immediately wonder why you bothered doing your hair. So while you’re pulling out cardigans, I’m still thinking linen, cotton, sandals and, most importantly, air conditioning.

I have to admit, though, there’s something about writing the Meadow Boutique blog that still puts me right back in Seattle. I can picture Shelley unpacking boxes, hanging the new arrivals and deciding where everything should go. I can almost hear someone saying, “I don’t know if I can wear that,” followed by Shelley saying, “Just TRY it.”

Some things apparently travel very well between Seattle and Mexico.

That’s what I love about September dressing. You don’t have to completely change your wardrobe; you just start adding to it. A sweater over the top you’ve been wearing all summer, jeans instead of shorts, a little jacket tossed over a dress, a scarf or cardigan. Add some texture or a color that suddenly feels right because the light has changed and the mornings are cooler.

In other words: LAYERS, PEOPLE. LAYERS.

And this is the BEST time of year to play with your closet. Take something you already own and add one new piece. Try a different shape of jeans or a color you might normally pass by. Sometimes one little change makes everything else in your closet feel new again. That’s the fun of Meadow. We’re not here to tell you what fashion says you’re supposed to wear. We’re here to help you find the things that make you feel really good when you put them on.

After all these years of Meadow, I’ve also learned that the best finds are often the ones you weren’t looking for. You come in thinking you need a sweater and leave with a pair of pants you never would have picked for yourself. There’s something about wandering around Meadow and seeing what catches your eye — or what Shelley thinks should catch your eye.

So take your time. Look around, touch things, see what’s new and don’t be afraid to wander outside your usual comfort zone. Clothes can surprise you, and sometimes the piece you almost walked past becomes the one you wear over and over.

Now that Fall will officially arrive this week at Meadow, come see what’s waiting for you at the Sidewalk Market. Add a layer, try something different and maybe find that unexpected piece that carries you right into the new season.

Fashion Week, Meadow Style

New York Fashion Week begins September 10, followed by London, Milan, and Paris. Meadow Boutique has its own runway right here in Seattle. You don’t have to be in those cities to have style.

In September the fashion world is ready to put on a show. It’s Fashion Month! Designers, editors, celebrities, buyers—and plenty of people wearing shoes we could never actually walk in—are gathering to see what’s coming next.

But while the big fashion capitals are busy showing us what’s next, we’re much more interested in what’s happening right now at Meadow. Because you don’t need a front-row seat at Fashion Week to have fabulous style.But here at Meadow, we have our own philosophy about fashion:

The best fashion isn’t what walks down a runway. It’s what walks out the door with YOU.

Because real style has to work in real life. It’s the sweater you throw on when a Seattle morning suddenly feels like Fall. It’s the top that looks great with the jeans you already own. It’s that unexpected little piece you try on because Shelley says, “Just try it,” and five minutes later you’re wondering how you ever lived without it.

We’re never ready to give up Summer, but we’re starting to crave something new. A little texture. A great layer. A new pair of jeans. Maybe a color we wouldn’t normally wear.

And while the fashion capitals of the world are busy telling us what we’ll supposedly be wearing next year, Meadow is much more interested in what makes you feel fabulous right now.

And here’s the best part about Fashion Week: you don’t have to follow it. Trends are fun, but personal style is better. Maybe this is the month you try the color you always thought wasn’t “you,” grab the slightly bolder top, or let Shelley show you something you’d never pick for yourself. Sometimes the best things in your closet are the ones you almost didn’t try on.

And since we’re talking Fashion Week, here’s a little Meadow insider information. Shelley isn’t filling racks with dozens of the same thing. She usually brings in just 6–8 pieces of each style, which means what’s here today might have a very short stay.

Yes, I know—I tell you this all the time. But who am I kidding? I know how this works. If you’ve been shopping at Meadow for years, you know exactly what I’m talking about. And if you’re new around here, consider this your official warning:

See it. Love it. Try it on. Because somebody else probably has their eye on it too. There are no runway rules here.

Wear what makes you happy.

Wear what makes you feel like yourself.

And if it happens to make someone stop you and say, “Where did you get that?”

Fall Looks Good On You

There’s a moment every year when you can just feel it.

The days start getting a little shorter. The mornings feel different. You find yourself looking at your closet and thinking, Okay, I’m ready for something new.

Fall is coming—and at Meadow, that means SWEATERS!

This week, sweaters are stealing the show at Meadow, with cozy new styles from Zenana and BlisBlis. These are the kind of sweaters we love—soft, comfortable, easy to wear, and just stylish enough to make jeans and a sweater feel like an outfit. From relaxed everyday looks to pieces with a little extra personality, they’re perfect for layering as we make that slow turn from summer into fall. And as always at Meadow, quantities are limited, so if you spot one that feels like your sweater, don’t wait too long. Fall is calling, and apparently it wants us in a fabulous sweater.

There’s just something about a great sweater. It’s cozy without trying too hard, comfortable enough to wear all day, and somehow makes your favorite pair of jeans feel like a whole new outfit.

And Fall gives us permission to layer again!

Throw a sweater over a favorite summer dress. Pair one with jeans and boots. Add a scarf or jacket when the temperatures really start to drop. Suddenly, all those pieces already hanging in your closet have new possibilities.

That’s one of the things we love most about Fall fashion at Meadow. You don’t have to reinvent your entire wardrobe. Sometimes one fabulous new sweater is enough to make everything feel fresh again.

And while we’re STILL patiently waiting for our building to be completed (yes, really!), Meadow isn’t waiting for Fall.

Shelley is continuing to find wonderful new pieces, and the Fall arrivals are happening. Remember, she generally orders only 6–8 pieces of each style, so Meadow isn’t a place where you’ll see racks and racks of the same thing. If you find a sweater you love, don’t wait too long. I know I say this often, but it really is one of the things I love most about Meadow Boutique. Shelley brings in just a handful of each style, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. That means your Meadow finds feel a little more special, a little more you—and you’re not likely to walk around town and see everyone else wearing the exact same thing. Backpacks, Sweaters & a Hint of Fall

There’s something about back-to-school season that makes September feel like a fresh start—even if the last time you stepped into a classroom was a few decades ago!

Here in Seattle, there’s finally a little hint of Fall in the air. The mornings are cooler, the evenings are coming a bit earlier, and suddenly reaching for a light sweater doesn’t seem completely ridiculous. After all that Summer sunshine, we’re ready for a change.

And so is Meadow Boutique.

This is that wonderful in-between season when we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to Summer, but we’re definitely starting to flirt with Fall. Think easy layers, cozy sweaters, richer colors and those pieces you can wear now—and keep wearing as the temperatures continue to drop.

Flirting With Fall

August is that funny little in-between month.

It’s still Summer. The sun is still doing its thing. We’re certainly not ready to pack away the warm-weather clothes. And yet… suddenly those rich rusts, warm browns, creamy neutrals and deep berry shades are looking awfully good.

Fall, is that you knocking?

This week at Meadow, we’re beginning that slow, lovely transition into the next season—and these new arrivals are exactly how we like to do it.

There are still plenty of pieces made for right now: a sweet floral blouse with puff sleeves, an easy polka-dot top that makes jeans instantly more interesting, and two wonderfully simple dresses that can take you from a late-summer dinner straight into September.

Then come the pieces giving us just a little taste of what’s ahead.

A gorgeous burgundy short-sleeve top. A creamy button-front sweater vest that looks fabulous with shorts now and jeans later. A relaxed brown knit that feels cozy without screaming October! And that warm rust sweater? Consider it a little preview of cooler days to come.

That’s the beauty of transitional dressing. You don’t need to wake up one morning and suddenly declare, “SUMMER IS OVER! BRING OUT THE SWEATERS!”

We’ve Earned Our Stripes

Well... it seems only fitting.

This week at Meadow, it's stripes, stripes, and more stripes! Our latest Zenana arrivals have us seeing lines in all the best ways, and honestly, we're not complaining. Classic, flattering, easy to wear—there's a reason stripes never really go out of style.

We're also bringing in new colors of the Zenana slub tee, one of those customer favorites that somehow becomes everyone's "I think I need one in every color" shirt. Soft, lightweight, and perfect on its own now or layered when Seattle finally remembers it's fall.

Speaking of layers...

We've also been peeling back the layers of our beautiful 113-year-old building, and let's just say... she's got character. Every time we think we've checked the last box, this grand old lady politely reminds us she has one more surprise waiting behind a wall, under a floor, or tucked into a century-old corner.

The good news? We are finally checking off the last of those details needed to receive occupancy. That means we're getting closer—really closer—to opening our doors again.

If there's one thing this journey has taught us, it's that restoring a historic building isn't a sprint. It's more like a three-legged race... uphill... in the rain... while carrying a latte.

But it will all be worth it.

We cannot wait to fill Meadow once again with laughter, conversations, beautiful clothes, and all of you. Your patience, encouragement, and excitement have carried us through every unexpected delay, and we are so grateful.

A Gentle Shift Toward Fall

Summer has been keeping us on our toes! One day it's beautifully mild, the next it's warm enough for sandals and iced coffee. Through all the changing weather, one thing has stayed the same—our Dreamers sweaters continue to fly out the door.

Here in Mazatlán, Summer has definitely turned up the heat! It's the time of year when we start dreaming about mountain breezes, cooler mornings, and road trips to some of Mexico's higher elevations for a little break from the tropical temperatures. While we're off searching for cooler air, we're also thinking ahead to Seattle, where August hints that Fall is just around the corner—and Meadow is beginning that beautiful transition too.

And here's a little extra good news... we'll also be starting to sprinkle in some Summer Sale pieces! It's the perfect opportunity to pick up that top, dress, or layering piece you've been eyeing before it's gone.

It's Late July... How Did That Happen?

Didn't we just put away the winter coats?

Somehow we've blinked, and it's the end of July. The tomatoes are trying their best, the sun is finally showing up on a semi-regular basis, and Seattle has officially entered that magical time of year when we all pretend we'll spend every waking minute outside.

Of course, that also means you're suddenly looking at your closet thinking, "Wait... what exactly have I been wearing all summer?" Well if you are like me, most everything I own is from Meadow Boutique. Oh how I miss it! Especially here in Mazatlan. There’s places to shop, but not quite like Meadow where things are new every week.

If that sounds familiar, Meadow is here to help.

While we're still patiently waiting for our beautiful shop to reopen (trust us, we're just as eager as you are!), we're still bringing the fun outside. Our Sidewalk Market is happening Saturday AND Sunday, giving you two chances to browse fresh arrivals, discover incredible finds, and enjoy a little retail therapy in the summer sunshine.

Who needs four walls when you've got blue skies, great company, and racks full of beautiful clothes? Well... okay... we do. We miss our four walls. A lot.

But until the finishing touches are complete, we're making the best of it—and honestly, there's something wonderfully charming about shopping outside. You never know what treasure you'll find, and there's always time to catch up with friends while you browse.

As always, Shelley has been out treasure hunting for those special pieces you won't find just anywhere. And remember—we only bring in a handful of each style, so when it's gone... it's gone. Believe me, I've learned this lesson the hard way more times than I care to admit. When I worked at Meadow, I'd spot something I loved and think, "I'll just grab it next week." Famous last words. After 14 months… we finally have electricity in the building! 🎉

It may sound like a small thing, but for us it feels huge. This journey back into our space has come with more delays and obstacles than we ever imagined—many completely out of our control—but this milestone feels like a giant step forward.

We know many of you have been patiently waiting right alongside us, cheering us on, asking for updates, and continuing to support us through our outdoor markets and temporary changes. Thank you. Truly. We’re not quite ready to announce an opening date yet, but we are getting closer and hope to share that exciting news with you very soon.

Waiting On Summer, Seattle Style

Seattle in June always keeps us guessing. One day you’re reaching for sunglasses and iced coffee, the next day you’re back in a light jacket wondering if Summer forgot to RSVP. But the second week of June? That’s when hope starts showing up.

The days stretch longer, the sidewalks get busier, flowers are in full bloom, and suddenly everyone starts making plans again. Patio season begins to whisper. Farmers markets feel fuller. There’s that familiar Seattle optimism that says, this might be the week.

At Meadow, we love this in-between season. It’s where style really shines — easy layers, lightweight pieces, dresses with denim jackets, cozy knits for the morning and something lighter underneath for when the clouds finally part. Check out our new arrivals below!

Our Sidewalk Market has been the perfect way to welcome the season. There’s something about shopping outdoors that feels like summer before Summer officially arrives. Seeing everyone stop by, say hello, and support us while we wait to get back into our space has made this season even sweeter.

So… is it Summer in Seattle yet?
Maybe not officially.
But we can feel it coming.

And until then, we’ll be outside, making the most of every sunny moment.

Meanwhile, in Mazatlán…(thanks for letting me share) there is absolutely no debate. Summer did not politely arrive — it kicked the door open, claimed a beach chair, and ordered another coconut. While Seattle is checking the weather app every hour and cautiously testing sandal season, Mazatlán is fully committed. The sun is shining, the ocean is warm, and stepping outside feels like opening an oven with better views. It’s beach walks, iced drinks, ceiling fans working overtime, and locals casually reminding us, “This? This is only the beginning.”

Join us this Saturday — because if Seattle teaches us anything, it’s to enjoy the sunshine when it shows up. We will move the market to Sunday if there is rain and we will be sure to let you know. Check your email for changes!

May is slowly giving way to June, and here at Meadow Boutique, we’re leaning into everything we love about this beautiful shift in seasons — lighter layers, easy dresses, soft colors, and those effortless pieces that somehow make you feel instantly pulled together.

Seattle is finally starting to show off a little sunshine, the days are stretching longer, and wardrobes are beginning to feel a little more carefree.
