Dressing Up March

Dresses, Dresses and more Dresses are hanging on our racks at Meadow Boutique. The clocks are set to change in a matter of weeks, so if you thought it was too early to think about spring dresses, you’re mistaken. While March isn’t technically spring just yet, you can certainly dress for the season you want. After all, March is the month of late-winter getaways and spring-break vacations, making it the perfect time to start shopping for spring dresses.

No matter the occasion or season, there are always plenty of opportunities to wear a dress and, of course, an overwhelming amount of options from which to pick. The sole reason we get excited about spring is that we can wear a dress again and not catch a cold. After months spent confined to wearing our favorite sweaters, fleece-lined sweatpants and leggings, our legs beg for sunlight and my arms are ready to be bronzed. But…the springtime can still feel like we’re very much stuck in the middle of winter. 

Rather than dwell on this sad, sad fact, I'm cheering myself up by buying a bunch of warm weather-approved dresses that will help me get through those end-of-winter blues. By the time that 70-degree weather actually rolls around, my spirits will not only be lifted but my wardrobe will be armed with the season's finest selection of frocks.

That should do it for this week as we count down the days until Spring. It’s not too far off now. We shall have rain for a bit, but the temps should be getting warmer at least. We look forward to seeing you. It’s time to start thinking about a new wardrobe for Spring. To me, I love buying fashion for Spring. It’s that in-between time with lots of transition on the outside of us, as well as the inside. From what we hear, we will be able to remove the masks and reveal who we have become now. Our faces are always full of surprises, it’s not like we can hide anything. The bottom of my face will be dressed up in new pink & coral lipsticks and it might be time to get my teeth whitened so I can give you the best smile ever. Say Cheese! Dreaming of Spring

It’s been a bit cold this past week. A little snow and freezing temps came out of nowhere. The sun was bright and the skies were blue, so that makes everything so much better. Having daylight is really a nice reprieve from the darkness that was setting in at 4:30. This year, we call it Spring on March 20th, less than a month from now. It’s the season of reawakening. The days are getting brighter, and the vibes, lighter. To celebrate all things spring, Think: ‘70s throwbacks, lots of logos, and bold hues (to name a few.) It’s time to look alive.

Last year saw some amazing fashion trends, but 2022 might just outdo it. In fact, if you're already dreaming of spring and sunshine, now's the time to start getting ahead on your 2022 spring wardrobe refresh. The fashion industry's tastemakers are making notes on recent runway shows, and spring 2022 is shaping up to be a stylish smorgasbord of color, texture, and aesthetic. Lighten Up. Brighten Up.

Meadow Boutique is overjoyed with all the lighter and brighter fashion that has breezed through our doors. Lots different from the Winter colors. We know how very hard it is to break away from black in your wardrobe. No one says get rid of it. We just say don’t wear it everyday and start adding fashion that will transition you into Spring. We have so many of those pieces right now. A splash of color will do you good! Seattleites tend to wear muted colors. Why? Is it because of the grey days and rainy weather? Whatever the reason will be, it’s time to add some sunshine to your wardrobe, even if you have to add your black something to ease into it.

I love wearing the new dresses we are getting in, and so this season I will be wearing them with my tennies or loafers. Adding a pair of socks really adds to my casual look and finishes out the outfit. That tends to be my style as of now. At my age, I am open to everything when it comes to fashion. At 64, I know what I can wear and not wear tastefully for me. All the floral patterns, makes me think of the 70’s. Lighter color jeans have come into play too. We have a couple of pairs of pastel bell bottoms. You can still throw on a sweater or cardigan to any dress and have a fun, cozy look. Add some spicy jewelry and you have a complete look. Our jewelry boards are full of new bobbles to contemplate.

We are so excited for all the beautiful colors of fashion coming in the next few weeks. Our back room is full of surprises we haven’t even put out yet. Lots of dresses are on the horizon with lighter weight tops and a big supply of different style jeans. We have lots of new jewelry that reflect those bight colors as well. We are having so much fun at Meadow Boutique and we hope you will join in on the fun too. I urge you to stop by and try on some of our new dresses and lighter brighter garments. What’s new this week at Meadow Boutique?

Dresses are by EMILY WONDER, FSL+APPAREL, CEST FEMME, IN LOOM & POLYGRAM. VINE & LOVE in with a lovely flutter sleeve top and pastel pink bell bottoms. FUN2FUN in with some light stripe tops and a blouse, and guess what? The stripes are black. We also have a couple of tees by LA MEIL. Have a look below and see what my suit your fancy!

WICKET GOODS is a fusion of modern and bohemian styles and has offerings for everyone from the minimalist to the statement maker. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and crafted in a home studio in beautiful central Washington.

MAISIE & LOOPS by Ling, based in London. She fell in love with polymer clay because it is such a versatile medium. All her designs are made in small batches to avoid waste. Ling’s style ranges from pretty florals to modern minimalist.

LAST TRUE ANGEL is the epitome of vintage glamour with a contemporary twist. Featuring 14kt gold plated brass, semi precious stones and crystals, all pieces are hypo-allergenic and arrive with beautiful packaging.

Enjoy the longer days and milder weather that is coming our way. Our Winter in Seattle was a little hard to take this year. We have been dreaming of Spring and all it brings to us in the form of weather and fashion. Our clocks will be “springing forward” on March 13 so you have a little time to think about what lighter and brighter colors could do for your disposition. Love on Valentine's

Whether you’re a singleton or all loved up, the most romantic day of the year is creeping up on us again – Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day every year is a good time to remind spouses, partners, children, friends, neighbors, and even pets how much LOVE there is to go around. And with it comes a desire to reach into our pockets and shower our loved ones with romantic gestures and gifts. It can be easy to put pressure on yourself to make Valentine's Day extra-special with a grand gesture or big present, but we're here to remind you that the most important Valentine's Day gift is time spent together. (Though there's certainly nothing wrong with "receiving gifts" being your LOVE language!) Whatever you decide to do on Valentine's Day this year, you can't go wrong with a thoughtful and sweet card, if you need a little help putting your feelings into words.

COVID-19 has prevented many people from being in close physical proximity to their loved ones, sadly. Celebrate Love

Aaah February, the wonderful month where we get a day to celebrate love. It’s the perfect time to highlight the mighty muse, after all, in the words of an 18th century English poet, “it’s love that makes the world go round.” Not only do we have our yearly appointment with St Valentine, a day to celebrate love, but it is also the coldest month of the year, a perfect time to cuddle up and whisper sweet nothings in each other’s ears filled with thoughts of love. It lets us demonstrate our appreciation for the love that is all around us, thereby letting us experience love’s special sweetness.

Throughout this month and beyond (not just on the 14th), let’s celebrate and spread the love. Here’s a quick guide with 5 simple steps to claiming the whole month of February as your ‘Month of Love.” With some practice, it’s a habit that could last the whole year!

SHOW GRATITUDE - Everyone loves to be loved. So why not express your gratitude to your partner, your loved ones, and even to yourself? When you do, you create the fertile ground from which the flowers of love can grow.

This week we have some dresses by POLAGRAM that can be paired with a cardigan for now and then in Spring & Summer be worn just as is. This brand is all about womens' apparel and it is a contemporary line. She is very conservative and at the same time fashion trendy “Wear your Memories."

Pastels in Winter

There are more pastels this week coming into Meadow Boutique. We love seeing all the light, fresh colors. It has us thinking of Spring, even though it’s a bit farther out than we would like. Sure, pastels are for Summer season wear, but there is no better way to lighten your mood and outfit during Winter cold months by adding these delicate hues. Trust me, there are numerous of ways how to look chic and hot in pastel looks. There are beautiful street style looks to make pastels let you stand out from the crowd. You can either choose one pastel piece or combine various colors with each other. Personally, we love pairing them with neutral hues, like black, navy, gray and beige. Pastels are going to be one of this cold season’s biggest statement makers. Powdery pink, baby blue, and cool mints gonna look fresh on you, all you need is to create a functional outfit that is both sweet and harmonized.

The colors we have in Meadow Boutique right now are on trend, if you are wondering with an electrifying pink, a yellowish orange, a calming blue, a plant-based green and a creamy shade of butter. I know this is a stretch for Seattleites, but like my grandma always said, “ You have to bring your own sunshine wherever you go,” so why not start with some pastels to get the sun shining within you!

What pretty pastels are new this week?

LES AMIS, 2 HEARTS, HEMLOCK GOODS have all been bringing us a little sunshine with the pastel hues. Have a look at the photos below. HEMLOCK GOODS is all about bandanas. Hemlock bandanas were made to be beautiful, yes, but they're also tough. They can hold your hair back, carry an outfit, pick up spills, and store your beloved treasures and favorite snacks. The possibilities are endless with these hardwearing, artfully designed handkerchiefs. And with a Hemlock bandana in your possession, your possibilities are endless too. Funny to think that bandanas are back. It seems we are bringing back many things from the past. It always happens but somehow we need it more than ever. SODA shoes just came in with some slip-on with flowers, yes flowers!

Fashion is like music. When you hear certain songs, it takes you back to a moment in time when you felt good or it was a memory you never want to forget. It’s the same with fashion, wearing different trends from the past reminds me of my youth and the freedom in the 60’s ands 70’s when there were much easier times. There’s that feeling of belonging and being part of something bigger than yourself. I know you know this, it’s so relatable. I am trying my hardest to incorporate pastels because I love them and right now, more than ever, we need to feel lighter and brighter. So……here’s to feeling lighter and brighter in the days ahead!

January is almost over, and it has been a little quiet, understandably. We have seen many of you looking for new denim and venturing out to try new colors. We love seeing you and helping you incorporate new hues into your already amazing fashion. Thank you, as always, for being here with us every step of the way. It’s always a pleasure to serve you. We have been through a lot together in the past few years. But we are still standing. That says a lot about us, don’t you think? Out With The Old. In With The New.

As I look at my closet, I know if I am going to buy more new things for Spring and perhaps for what’s left of Winter, I have to get rid of stuff I haven’t been wearing. You have to remember that I work at Meadow, so I see all the new arrivals every week. It’s really wonderful, but I tend to just want everything I see. I have to really ask myself if this piece will work with what I already have. And as you can well imagine that '“yes” slips out of my mouth so easily. I have gotten much better than when I first started working here and felt that I needed all the new arrivals. Fashion is for sure my passion. Every season change I know go through my closet and remove the pieces I hadn’t worn in 6 months. It’s much easier now because I turn my hangers the opposite way to show what I have and haven’t been wearing. I try to remember that there are many great places to donate so that others can share in the fashion I loved. So when you are cleaning out, think about the places where you might donate.

Nothing makes decluttering easier than knowing your clothes are going to a worthy cause — or at the very least, not going to the dump. Consider this: Around 11 million tons of textile waste ends up in landfills each year. And your old jeans and tees don't have a short stay there either. Depending on the material, it could take them anywhere from several weeks to several decades to break down, releasing methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide, in the process. Fortunately, there are simple ways you can donate your clothes to save the planet, and at the same time, help those in need. Here are a few places that are taking donations. Brighter January Colors

Pretty Pink, Light Purple, Bright Peach, Cornflower Blue, Stunning Fuchsia, Mint Green. Yes, these are some of the colors at Meadow Boutique right now. They are extremely beautiful to see with our Winter grey backdrop in Seattle. We are all so accustomed to wearing black, beige, all those muted colors. We blend in quite well, I must say. I am just as guilty as you. When in doubt, throw on something black……

I believe change is around the corner for 2022. It might be time for all of us to change our color scheme. We always equate light, bright colors to Spring and Summer, but who’s to say we can’t wear them now? The past few years have shown us that there is no rhyme or reason to why and how things can change. I have to say, without being a Debbie-downer, that the start to this year has been quite difficult in my world. There’s been more than enough days that wearing black seemed appropriate for me. I am ready to put the stress behind me and break out into the colors of a rainbow. Are you with me? Just come in and check out some of the hues I spoke about, see how they look on your beautiful self. I am going to incorporate these colors in my life and see how they play out. I am sure that I will feel better with a fuchsia piece to brighten up my grey days.

How is your comfy, cozy clothes pile holding up? We have workout pieces in now. It seems like we are always starting out the new year thinking we need to take better care of ourselves by joining a gym or buying workout equipment. I bought a Peloton last year and have never looked back. It’s always fun to buy new workout clothes because we wear them to workout and then they are stylish enough to wear for running around to do errands or sharing a coffee with a friend. We have some velour tops and bottoms for those relaxing evenings as well. Athletic pieces are a must because they have come a long way from tights and leotards. LOL We can wear them anywhere and look put together for any excursion that might come our way.

New Year! Begin Again.

I hope that your New Year has gotten off to a good start. It will be what we make it with all the news outside of us telling us what we should and shouldn’t do, who we should be. With covid and omicron in the news and its widespread going into year 3, believe me, I know it’s hard to drum up some positive thinking. According to Governor, Jay Inslee, “To try to slow the spread of omicron, the state will tap into its personal protective equipment inventory with plans to distribute roughly 10 million KN95 and surgical masks in the coming weeks. Schools will be among the prioritized recipients.” Just when we thought we were maybe rounding a corner…..not so much. We have to create a new normal for ourselves, albeit what we thought 2022 would bring. It takes me back to my gratitude list and keeping up that good feeling of what we have, instead of what we don’t.

The weather has surely been bitter cold and snowy this year. Last weeks snow lingered a bit too long for our liking. Seattle’s hills are not meant for snow in places like Queen Anne Hill, Capitol Hill, Beacon Hill, shall I go on? Each community seems to have a hill in its name and they certainly live up to it, especially if we have icy conditions. Once the rains came, we were back to our normal winter weather that we are accustomed. Rain never looked so good!

If there is one thing I know about Americans, is that we are resilient. We come together in times when we are needed to make a difference. So as we move into this year, let us remember who we are and our ability to love. It’s really a simple concept. It’s the golden rule, if you are old enough like me to remember what was on every ruler we used in school. “Do unto to others as you would have them do unto you.” Perhaps that is just the way we can change the world and make it a better place for all of us, despite everything going on around us. What do you think? I think Betty White would agree!

We tend to feel a little grey ourselves and that’s all we seem to wear is all the neutral colors that help us to blend in. I need some color in my wardrobe, how about you? Look for some lighter blends in the weeks to come. Winter doesn’t have to be only colors of black, grey, beige and brown.

Happy New Year!

This week has been quite a snow event coupled with very cold temperatures. I spent most of my holiday at home catching up on movies with a blanket and my jammies and my cat. There was no way my little VW bug was getting out of my frozen street. The forecast is calling for more snow on and off for the next few days. Here in Seattle there will not be any snow equipment traveling up and down side streets with ice defroster. There are too many hills for that. It seems that this a forced time off now unless you are brave enough to hit the streets.

Lots of packages did not make scheduled deliveries these past few days, including our delivery full of new arrivals. It will be here, just not on time to get photos before Friday. We decided to go ahead and send you some good wishes for the New Year anyway. So, we are sending you lots of love for the coming New Year, and hope that 2022 will be a good year for all of us. We hope your holidays were amazing being with your friends and family. We enjoyed seeing you all during the holiday season with your list for your gift giving. You chose us to do your shopping, and that means a lot to us. We hope all your gifts were loved and appreciated and your loved ones were happy with your selections. If there is a need to exchange, we make that available to you within 2 weeks after Christmas. We are certain they will find something to exchange or get a forever credit.

Next week should be back to normal…….we hope! Our deliveries will be here and we will post our new arrivals next week. I do know there is a new shacket on the way and some velour sweat suit sets, along with velour sweat pants. Super warm and cozy for the deep freezing temps we are experiencing. Love Tree is on the way too with their usual fashion trends, of sweaters, cardigans and jackets.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

It’s here, and we are ready for this special time of the year. Christmas is the family holiday par excellence around the world, it is the time to get together with loved ones, to receive gifts, hugs and good wishes and, although all these demonstrations of affection are of human nature, in these last two Christmas celebrations, our customs and traditions have had to adapt to an undeniable reality: the pandemic of COVID-19.

This will be the second Christmas that will be spent with a very different reality from how the celebration was in 2019 and before, however, that does not mean that we should avoid the joy and optimism that radiates at this time of year, we just have to be aware and be responsible. I care about you, and you care about me, and really isn’t that what Christmas is about? We wish you all a very special Christmas with your loved ones. It truly has a way of bringing out the best in all of us. We feel warm and cozy all over just thinking about the weekend festivities. We will keep it short and sweet so you can continue the joy of the season with your family!

What’s new this week at Meadow Boutique? Our weekly shipment didn’t come this Tuesday but we have a few more things to tickle your fancy.

We have a couple of sweet sweaters in from DOUBLE ZERO, two plaid shackets from BLU PEPPER, and from PHIL LOVE three soft shirts in floral and two of them have skiers and snowboarders on the the front. Super cute and different. HEM & THREAD brings a suede-like jacket all furry inside.

There’s still some little gift treasures all over the store for stocking stuffers and little gifts for friends and family. I mean who doesn’t love bath bombs and luscious creams and soaps. Tis' The Season

Tis’ the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la. Right? Do you have your jolly on? Time to get out of that funk you might be in because of all this rain that’s been falling. Between September and the end of November, the Seattle metropolitan area accumulated about 19 inches of rain, the largest amount since records began in 1945 and surpassing its previous record chronicled in 2006 by less than an inch. I have to say, the rain has really gotten to me this year, and the fact that it is dark by 4:30. YIKES! To remedy this, I have been playing holiday music to lift my spirits and contemplating installing lights that makes you feel like the sun is shining. I am trying to get my jolly on too, so hang in there. From what I understand, a Hallmark Holiday movie might lift your spirits as well…….let me know what works for you, because I am all in!

We are all truly blessed if we think about it! Life is much better this year, than last year. Am I right? This year we don’t have to fib to our friends that we are staying home and not seeing anyone because of COVID. No guilt this year, as we gather with our family or friends to celebrate this holiday of giving. I for one, am grateful. So let’s forget about the rain and remember how beautiful Seattle is because of it. Not many places are as green and lush as where we live! I suppose it makes us appreciate the sun even more when it comes out.

December is here. The air is getting cooler. Lights are popping up throughout many neighborhoods. VINE & LOVE has my vote this week with beautiful lace tops in winter white and black. So soft and flattering, so perfect to dress up or down for the holidays and beyond. Also there is a chunky teal turtleneck with lots of character.

NEW IN has 2 lovely sweaters in that festive red and off white, with lovely full sleeves and oh so soft…..A cozy way to ring in this holiday season. There is also a textured sweater with dots.

JODIFL brings us 2 colors of a quilted short jacket. It comes in a dark grey and rust color. The fit is really nice and a great layering jacket!

HYFVE has that color we are seeing this year in winter fashion - purple but a much lighter color like lavender. Its a very flattering wrap sweater with nice detailing. Take a chance, try something new instead of the typical muted colors that we all seem to wear in Seattle.

Small Business Saturday

Now that your belly is full of that wonderful Thanksgiving dinner you just had last eve, are you ready to go shopping and support the local businesses in your community? Local businesses across Washington are hoping to make the most of Small Business Saturday and other promotions as the coronavirus pandemic continues to redefine the holiday shopping season.

Independently owned boutiques, gift shops, mom-and-pop hardware stores, restaurants and the like are facing unprecedented challenges as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic changes how Americans do their holiday shopping.

The idea for this special day is to encourage people to shop small during the post-Thanksgiving weekend and support their local economies. It has become a holiday shopping traditional dedicated to supporting all kinds of businesses — from the corner store, to your favorite local restaurant, to your neighborhood comic book shop — and everything in between!

What’s new this week for Small Business Saturday?

HYFVE in with cold shoulder velvet tops and cropped sweaters. Perfect with high-waisted pants. JODIFL has lovely tops with a magenta jewel tone top and also a floral top full of jewel tones. These tops are a breath of fresh air! DOUBLE ZERO gives us some leggings with pockets and light colored crop sweatshirts. I am loving everything in the store right now, and as you can imagine, that could pose a problem for me buying gifts for me, me, me. I did buy the person behind me in line this morning a latte at Starbucks. That was the best feeling in the world….to buy a stranger something and see the surprise on their face. Priceless. We show kindness unconditionally to our friends and family, but what about a perfect stranger? She was very gracious and said she was going to pay it forward to someone too. The whole ordeal did my heart good. If you can find some kindness in your heart, I ask you to do something nice for a stranger. I promise you the feeling will give you such joy. We don’t ever know what others are going through in their life and an act of kindness may be just what they needed to make life feel a little better!

We want you to know that we are so appreciative of all your support. You have been there for us through thick and thin in the past year and we are forever grateful! We always hear from you how it is important to you to support local businesses and we like your way of thinking. You don’t just talk the talk, you walk the walk all the way into our boutique. Bring On The Holiday Cheer

Can you smell it? The faint scent of turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie drifts through the air this week, as we all gather around our family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. Unlike other holidays that are more gift-focused, Thanksgiving is centered on giving thanks for what we have and the special people in our lives. It’s a time to catch up with loved ones, sit around the table and share one of the most delicious meals of the year. Who doesn’t love endless stuffing and slices of pie? Whether you are near or far from your loved ones this Thanksgiving, there are so many ways to share just how much you care with thoughtful Thanksgiving wishes and messages for everyone in your life.

With such busy lives, it can be difficult to slow down and take time to feel thankful for what we do have. However, Thanksgiving marks an important season for all of us to take a moment and remember the little things in life—and every little thing we’re thankful for.

We are stocked up on every rack with pieces coming in daily. If you see something you like, grab it, no joke. Nothing will last, I know I sound like a broken record, but it’s true! Kindness is Free at Meadow Boutique

In the world we live in today, it’s obvious we can all show each other a little more Kindness. I know, I know, I talk about this every year. Knowing you all the way I do, it seems this is important to you as well. For me, it is so much easier to be Kind! Every year on November 13th, it is World Kindness Day. The objective of World Kindness Day is to spread Kindness with small gestures. The main tradition of the day is to be kind and to try and encourage Kindness to prevail over hatred. Whether it’s helping out someone with chores, taking the time out to ask how someone is doing, or complimenting someone, the name of the game is Kindness, and we all have it in us.

When I lived in Denver, I was introduced to The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is a small nonprofit that invests their resources into making Kindness the norm. I know and love Brooke Jones, the vice president of the organization and she is a dynamo when it comes to promoting Kindness. Brooke and her team are making the world a better place, by showing us how to incorporate Kindness in our daily lives. Check out all their resources for teachers, companies and your very own home to explore ways of promoting Kindness.

It’s time to be Kind and share all of our new arrivals!

This week, BLU B brings in more shackets in plaids and fuzzy, cozy materials. Also, some added cardigans with that southwest patterns that are sure to have others doing a double take on your attire. There is a really cute dress in all those warm hues that will look amazing with a pair of boots, any kind really. DOUBLE ZERO has some more soft tops and sweaters that will be great for any type of layering. SM WARDROBE brought in 2 sweatshirts, one with cats and one with dogs for all you animal lovers. I think most people that frequent our boutique have a dog or a cat. It’s funny how many dog friends we have at Meadow! Everyday there seems to be a furry friend coming in for a treat. Kindness to pets is for sure one of our mottos! We have back orders coming in that we are putting on racks almost daily, so be sure to stop in so you don’t miss anything. GILLI, NEW IN, and HYFVE have been trickling in as well. It’s a thing for Meadow Boutique to always keep you in the know for new arrivals. Oh, and one more thing, it smells absolutely incredible from all of our holiday candles and there are so many little gifts to be had for all the special people in your life. November’s Attitude of Gratitude

As I strolled into Starbucks this morning to get my pumpkin spice latte, I noticed a board full of sticky notes with writings of gratitude and positive sayings. What a truly amazing idea. It prompted me to write something I was grateful for and oh, how I could feel my heart expand with love. Before I get out of bed in the morning, I try to think of 5 things I am grateful for. It helps me so much to create an intention for my day. It makes me feel better somehow…..and most of all it makes me feel grateful for all that I have.

As we kick off the month of November, it is truly crazy to me to think that 2021 is nearly over. It won’t be long until we are carving the turkey at Thanksgiving, roasting our Christmas dinner, and clinking champagne glasses to celebrate the start of a new year.

Yes, the days and the weeks seem to be moving fast, but this month, families are purposefully slowing down and intentionally carving out time to focus on what matters most. We must teach our kids to have an attitude of gratitude, and when we look around the country and see so many folks who have lost their homes, their jobs, and even more this past year, I can’t help but appreciate the blessings we do have in our lives.

So, to help you build your appreciation muscle, here are ten simple ways to add the practice of it to your daily life at work and at home.

1 . Say “please” and “thank you.” Practicing kindness on a regular basis is an important way to show everyone you appreciate them.

2. Catch someone doing something right. Take notice of pictures, what someone is wearing, or something else you like about them. Show them that you care about who they are.

3. Show genuine interest. Take notice of what someone is wearing, or something else you like about them. Show them that you care about who they are.

4. Go to lunch or take a break. Give the gift of your time — go to lunch, take a break, or go for a walk and connect with someone on a more personal basis.

5. Give a small gift. Give a favorite coffee drink, candy bar, or flower to someone you appreciate and just say “thanks for all you do”. It can be as simple as a sticky note with that same sentiment.

6. One word: food. Make a batch of brownies, or bring in a fruit plate to the office kitchen, or deliver a treat to a remote worker.

7. Create traditions. Have everyone write down one person they appreciate and why, and put them in a hat. Draw one out for a prize. This is also really fun to do at home!

8. Celebrate successes. When things go right, celebrate! Acknowledge everyone involved, even for the small stuff. It can make a huge difference in office and family morale.

9. Say it out loud. Tell someone you appreciate them in front of others. Tell your spouse you are thankful for him in front of the kids or your friends how much you appreciate them.

10. Tell their boss. Don’t you wish someone would do that for you? What a powerful way to show gratitude that can have a lasting impact!

Make appreciation a daily habit Show appreciation and gratitude often. Everyone has a real need to feel appreciated and valued. In practicing daily gratitude for others, you will find that you become not only a more positive communicator but that you also become more optimistic, less stressed, and generally happier and healthier as a result!
