So many of you have talked about the pounds you have put on during COVID, oh really?! The COVID-19 pandemic changed us inside and out. For many people, those outward changes weren’t especially welcome.
In March 2020, when the country went into lockdown, people who could do their jobs from home shifted quickly to work-from-home arrangements. This left people scrambling to set up a home office, and for some, the kitchen table seemed like the most convenient place. But if you’ve stayed there, sitting near the fridge and pantry means you have easy access to food and might be mindlessly snacking while you work. Studies show that distracted eating, or not paying attention while eating, causes people to eat more. With the closing of gyms, the complete disruption of our daily lives, and the increase of daily stress, many people have gained weight since the beginning of the pandemic.
With all this in mind, there are steps you can take to boost metabolism, correct bad habits and shed some pounds.
Consume small, frequent meals. Eat three meals and three snacks each day, spaced three to four hours apart. Never skip meals; keep portable snacks handy for times when you're too busy to stop and eat. Try to be consistent with meal and snack times.
Include protein on your plate. Aim to include at least 3 ounces of protein per meal. For proper portioning, visualize the size of a computer mouse or a deck of cards.
Gradually start lifting weights. Light weightlifting will help you to preserve muscle mass, boost metabolism and tone while you shed pounds.
Start walking. A brisk walk for at least 30 minutes each day will jump-start your metabolism and help you burn extra calories.
Find stress-relieving alternatives. Sometimes you may want to indulge your sweet tooth but often, a hot bath or a walk around the block can be equally stress-relieving.
Small changes can add up, and consistency is key. You don't have to do fad diets and boot camps to see results. Start small, stay committed and be patient. Getting in shape and feeling stylish while doing it, is what we have in store for you this week at Meadow Boutique!
