November in Seattle brings about a dramatic shift in weather, marking the transition from the vibrant fall foliage of October to the cooler, wetter days of the approaching Winter. Although we are renowned for our notorious rainfall, November offers a unique charm that many locals and visitors appreciate. I am going to make the best of this November. Yesterday I walked 3 miles in the pouring down rain with an umbrella. My friend and I meet every week for a 6 mile walk and yesterday was the typical Seattle weather. It didn’t stop us. The first half of the walk was dry but the second half was as wet as it could be. Torrential downpour. But, we rewarded ourselves with some fabulous sushi and laughed about how we got drenched, even with umbrellas!
Before I head off into the sunset, I want to shine a light on the weather patterns and the various activities that make November in Seattle a delightful experience. I just want to remind you and myself of all the wonderful ways to enjoy ourselves here in the Northwest. I also want to tell you that Meadow Boutique has everything you need to transition into any kind of weather in our great city! We have so many great pieces that will make you feel brighter when the days are grey.
Rain, Rain, and More Rain: Seattle's reputation for rainy weather certainly holds true in November. Our city receives an average of 6.57 inches of rainfall during the month. The persistent drizzle and gray skies create a cozy atmosphere that many of us find comforting. I always find solace in the rain when I can get in my jammies, find a snuggly blanket and watch a rom-com. Over the years I have found the softest pieces at Meadow that allow me to get cozy during those drizzly days.
Fall Foliage: While the vivid colors of October fade, you can still find pockets of beautiful Fall foliage throughout the city in early November. Washington Park Arboretum and the Japanese Garden offer fantastic opportunities for a peaceful stroll amid the lingering Autumn colors. Our colorful gloves and hats can add to those lovely walks in the parks here and certainly make you feel part of our fall foliage landscape. The colors are rich and lush and wearable! Stop by and see for yourself.
Cozy Indoor Activities: With the November rain providing the perfect excuse to stay indoors, Seattle offers a plethora of cozy indoor activities. Our city's many coffee shops are a great place to warm up with a cup of artisanal coffee, explore the unique boutiques and bookstores, or spend a rainy afternoon in one of the city's museums or art galleries. I said boutiques, you know, like Meadow Boutique? We are here rain or shine!
Seasonal Delicacies: November is the perfect time to savor comforting, hearty meals. Seafood lovers can enjoy freshly caught Dungeness crab, while our local restaurants offer farm-to-table dishes featuring seasonal ingredients. Don't forget to try a slice of homemade pumpkin pie or indulge in our iconic Pacific Northwest clam chowder that we all so know and love.
Holiday Festivities: As November progresses, the holiday spirit starts to take hold. Seattle lights up with festive decorations, and the annual tree lighting ceremonies bring communities together. At Meadow we always have amazing gifts and lovey things to wear during the holidays. This year will be no different.
Outdoor Activities: Despite the rain, it seems we all that live here remain active year-round. There’s no choice with the rain. You have to just get out there and do things. For those who enjoy the outdoors, November is a great time to explore the lush greenery of the city's parks. Try a rainy day hike in Discovery Park or venture out to the nearby Olympic Peninsula, where the rainforest thrives during this season. I will certainly miss how green it is here. The rain has given us a brilliant outcome here in Seattle!
November weather may be rainy and gray, but it brings its own charm and unique experiences. It's a time for us to enjoy the coziness of indoor activities, savor delicious seasonal food, and partake in holiday festivities. If you're willing to embrace the drizzle, you can discover the quieter, more contemplative side of our city during this transitional month. November in Seattle is a time to relish the city's distinctive beauty and spirit. Since I am leaving, I plan to do just that.
