New Arrivals With Style

Lots of amazing styles here at Meadow Boutique. There’s so many fab pieces to choose from for Autumn right now. They just keep on coming in, tempting me, tempting you. Some pink, some burgundy are joining the mix. All of the styles make me want more and more pieces for my incredibly stylish life. If you love style and color and texture and everything that goes along with the Autumn vibe, you have got to stop by and see us at Meadow Boutique. We surely have something for every body!

It’s been a tough couple of weeks with all of the smoke that continues to linger. Smoky, dirty air is hanging over the Puget Sound region like a blanket as wildfires continue to burn across the state. If you don’t have to go out….don’t. This kind of smoke is very dangerous. The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency sent out an alert Tuesday afternoon saying the smoke around Seattle was causing unhealthy air and that people should close windows and limit time outdoors. Other areas around Puget Sound were experiencing air considered unhealthy for sensitive groups or worse, the agency said. Exposure to wildfire smoke is associated with eye and respiratory tract irritation, bronchitis, heart failure, and even premature death, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

So please, we beg you, stay safe and if you need to shop, come on in, you cannot smell smoke in our boutique. The doors stay closed until fresh air graces us again and will stay that way until the smoke subsides. Drive here, don’t walk. Keep your furry friends safe too! This is where our masks can come in handy again. We look forward to seeing you whenever you decide to venture out.

We are coming upon holidays as you well know. I have heard many of you are doing Halloween parties, hosting Thanksgiving dinner and just heading out to places to have fun during the Christmas Holidays. It’s always interesting where we will end up now that we can be out and about with our loved ones. Not all of my family lives in Seattle, so being with them is always last minute of who will celebrate together. I am just happy we all can congregate and and share the love this holiday season.

Soft & Cozy Fashion For The Season

I have a confession to make………I have been known to wear some of the tops we have right now to bed. They are oh so soft, just like PJ’s. I guess designers know we are in need of fashion that makes us feel warm and cozy after the past few years of quarantine and working at home. At that time, we wore whatever we wanted as long as our top half was presentable for those Zoom meetings. As we have ventured out now, we still need soft fashion against our skin! Lucky for you, soft clothes are a piece of the 2022 style puzzle.

With cooler weather around the corner, we're all looking for warm, easy-to-layer clothes, like roomy denim jackets and long sweater dresses. And many of us are back at the office and spending more time in a professional setting, so we're grabbing comfortable, but polished pants, vests, and other pieces that look stylish, but don't feel like a big departure from the sweats we're used to wearing at home.

Autumn leaves are falling, golden pumpkins are lining the streets and crisp air is here. Fall is making its debut, and we are welcoming the season with open arms. So, yes, we would love a candy apple along with some warm hot chocolate, thank you. Do you know what else we would love? To be cozied up in warm, soft clothing. So throw us a hoodie, a pair of socks, and let’s stay in!

What’s new at Meadow Boutique this week?

STACCATO is the boss this week with lots of cozy, soft tops, sweaters and shackets. STACCATO is king with so many soft fabrics. DREAMERS with a pair of knit pants, oh so cozy. LOVE TREE with a lovely plaid shacket and and light beige coat. Shelley always sneaks out some new stuff before the weekend that doesn’t get on the blog. Meadow Boutique is full of surprises! There is also a basket full of gloves you might want to check out in the front of the store by the shoes. They are the kind you can still use your phone with special fingertips. NEWS FLASH: we got a new shipment of JEN & CO bags today after I had already taken the photos. They are the crossbody bags with 2 straps and 2 compartments for phone, credit cards, etc. So many great colors for the season!

You know I have to mention this weather. WOW! October has been amazing. It’s cool in the morning and the evening. The sun is shining and the leaves are changing colors. It is such a beautiful time of year in Seattle. When I look at the forecast for the coming week it shows sunny days temps in the 70’s. I am in heaven. I don’t care how cold it gets, just give me a little sunshine on my shoulders! Yep, you got it, it does make me happy.

Layering Up For Fall

Fall is the time of year we love to layer. As opposed to peeling off layers in the summer, the crisper fall air gives us reason to add them back into our daily looks...with glee. There’s something about putting on a warm, cozy layer (and slipping into boots, too) that gets us excited and makes fashion feel brand new. Depending on the climate in Seattle, you may be ready for these layers sooner than later! That chill in the air may have you packing away those breezy sundresses and light cardigans, but the best layering is yet to come! Fall fashion is all about staying comfortable while looking your very best.

Layering for the Fall is easy when you have strategic pieces of clothing in your closet. Be sure to have plain cotton turtlenecks, mock necks, and quarter-sleeve cotton shirts for base layers. For the top layer, light V-neck sweaters, fleece vests, fashion scarves, tank tops, and other basic tops work well.

Dressing for Fall is all about balancing comfort and style—a skill that can be perfected with the art of layering. Layering isn't just adding a thermal top underneath your sweater. It's combining structures, textures, and garment styles to curate combinations that keep you comfortable both indoors and outdoors. From sweater vests to colorful crochet tops, find out what items you need in your wardrobe and how to layer them effectively. As the temperature drops, the more creative dressers rise. 

When it comes to layering for warmth, go by the 3 layer method:

• Base layer – a lightweight layer like a camisole or t-shirt

• Mid layer – a warm layer such sweater or cardigan

• Outer layer – a protective outerwear layer like a coat or jacket

I forgot about ponchos, but they are a perfect layering piece and back in 2022! We have 4 different colors and styles at Meadow Boutique. While ponchos are perfect for keeping you warm in fall, and make a great layering piece during the winter season, they are not only for chilly days. Ponchos are now widely available in light fabrics and crochet patterns that work great for cover-ups in the summer season. You can sport a poncho in a plethora of ways. Whether you’re going out on a date with your beau, touring a winery with your friends, heading on beach vacations, or warming up during the winter holidays. 

OK, OK - I certainly got carried away with layering, that’s because we have so much here at Meadow that can help you achieve the look…..so what’s new this week at Meadow Boutique this week:

SNEAK PEEK & JBD are new denim styles this week. There’s a black straight leg and denim straight leg and a skinny as well. We got 3 new colors of the short DREAMERS sweaters. They have become so popular that the last batch from last week have already sold out. GILLI with a couple of jumpsuits, a sweater dress and a midi dress and a sweater. There’s a stylish bodysuit from HAYDEN, a soft striped sweater in pink and a lovely LOVE TREE Shacket. HYFVE with a coatigan. What is a coatigan? A trendy new garment which has begun to make its mark over the last couple of years, the coatigan is simply a cross between a coat and a cardigan. STYLINE with 4 different plaid ponchos. Love them! There’s so many ways to style a poncho! Add a hat and you are ready to rock your world.

October Cool

Now that we're leaving September and welcoming October, it's time to accept that Summer is over and Fall is here. Believe it or not, it's time to start packing away your breezy linen dresses and denim cutoffs in favor of plush sweaters, reliable leggings and the best fall boots for assembling the ultimate cozy-meets-stylish outfit.

That telltale coniferous whiff of pine sap mixed with afternoons bathed in golden, glancing sunlight. The bounty of the harvest delivered through sensational sips and unforgettable meals. Fall in the Pacific Northwest is arriving in full force! It’s high time to soak in the sensory overload of the season, whether it’s more your style to bundle up for a leaf-peeping stroll or get cozy with a hot cup of joe and a rich pastry indoors.

A special perk of Seattle, and the Northwest in general, is that folks dress casually. Even for nights out on the town, you'll spot plenty of jeans as well as more formal clothes, but rarely anything as formal as you might see in an East Coast city. Seattle is known for many things: its coffee, it’s wet weather, and its residents’ relaxed sense of fashion. Seattle is the birthplace of grunge, so it makes sense that all that flannel has lingered in our closets long after the ’90s. Plus, we’re an outdoorsy bunch. When we’re not hiking the trails in our many stunning parks, we can often be found walking or biking to work in the rain. Function over fashion is the style norm in Seattle.

Perhaps you originally dressed up for your office job but after switching to work from home at some point during the past two years, you now consider jeans to be fancy. You’re most likely not the only one contributing to the casual style in Seattle. So that brings us to all the casual fashion that came in this week at Meadow Boutique.

We have some new plaid bags from JEN & CO and some more Fall colors will be coming in of the most recent solid colored bags. So many sweaters and sweatshirts are in cropped, longer and mid-length from STACCATO, DOUBLE ZERO, and HYFVE. SNEAK PEEK brought in 3 denim washes and styles. They are all flared and super cute. It’s great that there are so many styles of denim right now, something for EVERY BODY. If you haven’t tried flared because you had the pressure of wearing the baggy or straight leg jeans. I love having all different styles to pick from out of my closet. I suggest trying the flare, just so you know how you look in them today. I know how I looked in them in the 70’s will not be the same. I am game, how about you?

Officially Fall at Meadow

Yes, you heard me right - it’s Fall as of September 22 at Meadow Boutique. Can you feel it in the air? I love the Indian Summer we have in September & October. The weather is still nice and hovering in the mid 70”s, except for the mornings and evenings are now crisp with fresh cool air. The weather in Seattle in Fall is gorgeous. September brings many days in the 70s and even the 80s and gradually goes down to the 60s as the season continues. Seattle in September tends to be reasonably dry, and the rain doesn't really start until October in Seattle. The smoke seems to come and go and I hope we are getting to the end of it soon.

Why do we call it an Indian Summer? An Indian summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. When European settlers first came across the phenomenon in America it became known as the Indian's Summer. The haziness of the Indian Summer weather was caused by prairie fires deliberately set by Native American tribes. It was the period when First Nations/Native American peoples harvested their crops.

What fashion pieces do we need to have on our wardrobe for Fall? There are many new people in our neighborhood from other places, so hopefully this list will help.

When I look at this list, we pretty much have a majority of these items you can pick up. And if we don’t have them, we will certainly be getting them in the weeks to come. This week, LOVE TREE brings in a couple of shackets, one longer, one shorter style. EVER B brought in some flannels with those Fall hues and will be great layering pieces. There is a jumpsuit as well with a delightful gold color that’s worth a look! It’s in our window. DOUBLE ZERO & NEW IN sport the puffer jackets in perfect colors for Fall and Winter. NEW IN has some fun plaid pants and breathable comfy tops for layering as well. We have 4 new styles of Fall shoes too. You gotta see them and try them on. They are perfect for dress up or dress down depending on the look you are wanting for Fall. Shelley told me this morning that more denim is on order with more styles you will love. Many people seem to be looking for denim right now, well, duh, it’s getting cooler. We will pretty much have everything on the list above, as I said. More hats, and coats and gloves and scarves and all those goodies will come in as the months progress into Winter. Fun, Fun, Fun is all I can say! We have you covered and we can’t wait to see what you look like in these fabulous Fall colors!

Dress Like A Queen

I can’t help think about Queen Elizabeth II this week. I took it upon myself to watch some of the documentaries about her life. Even though she was a Queen for us all, I really didn’t know a lot about her, so I educated myself. Her love of country, her people, animals and fashion was quite impressive. I had so much fun looking at all the photos of her different, colorful outfits. From head to toe, she was the Queen in every sense of the word.

The style legacy of the Queen is a simple lesson in the power of fashion. She was a woman who knew she was herself a symbol, and adopted a classic yet iconic uniform to communicate this: pearls, hats, block colors – that Launer London top-handle bag. Hers was a role whose influence and relevance were so often under fire in an ever-changing political landscape and yet she knew, from the moment she made that famous address on her 21st birthday, that she would devote her life to offering stability and reassurance to Great Britain and the Commonwealth – and so she dressed the part. She was not just a style icon, she was the embodiment of something bigger than herself; a living symbol. She was not afraid of color and she wore every color of the rainbow with the perfect hat to match. I so admire her sense of style! It would do us all some good if we ventured out in our fashion styles and colors and just go for it! In other words, Dress Like A Queen! Seems like a brilliant way to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

Hate to break it to you, but Fall is right around the corner. It will be very sad when you come by and your size is gone. Just saying, you might want to think ahead a little bit and pick up a sweater or 2 so that you are ready. Thursday, September 22 is the first day of Fall and the temps are already getting cooler.

The smoke is finally disappearing and everything pumpkin spice and maple is overtaking Trader Joes. School is back in session and it's pretty quiet in the Queen Anne neighborhood. The Seahawks won their first game against Denver and Russell Wilson. Life is settling us back in again to our old routine and…..OK, I dare say it, you might want to plug your ears - T H E  H O L I D A Y  S E A S O N is enticing us to start thinking about the festivities. First is Halloween, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas. So sorry, I am getting ahead of myself, didn’t mean to freak everyone out. Let’s just focus on the season at hand, and that’s Fall. September Sweaters

If you’ve grown weary of summer’s heat waves and ever-constant perspiration, get excited: Sweater weather is around the corner. Yes, we have them….so many sweaters. Cardigans long, cardigans short, cropped, striped, solid, pockets, no pockets. There’s also sweater tanks that are perfect for layering. And we keep getting more, friends, that is where we are headed now. It’s been cool in the morning and in the evening. We are having dream weather, with temps in the 70’s and sunny. This is truly my favorite time of year. Bring on the sweaters, can’t wait for those cozy fabrics and lovely hues. It’s all perfect with that seasonal pumpkin latte.

​What is the color scheme of the best fall sweaters? You’re in luck here because there is no right answer for what color a fall sweater consists of. Seriously, you can wear a fall sweater of any color. Typically, we love the more neutral colors – they give me that cozy ensemble, curl up with a glass of hot cocoa and watch old movies kind of vibe. Think grey, a light taupe, white or even black. However, we also love brighter sweaters. Color-block sweaters are great if you’re wanting another cozy sweater option.

What is the best way to wear fall sweaters? So, you can style a fall sweater in literally a million different ways. Therefore, this is great because you can buy sweaters that will work for both fall and winter, depending on the weather outside. You can style your sweater in so many ways. For instance, you can pair an oversized sweater with denim jeans or even pants. You can pair a nicer cashmere sweater with a skirt and leather boots. If the weather is a bit warmer outside, you can even wrap a long-sleeve sweater over your shoulders and pair with cuffed denim and sneakers. One of our favorite ways to wear a button-down sweater is off the shoulder with mom jeans and either mules or chunky sneakers. Or, throw on some leggings, a comfy sweater and just lounge! We heard that Seattle Schools are are strike. So sorry about that. The kids are always so excited to get back to school after the Summer. Most likely, new school clothes have been purchased this past week and they are excited about their new teachers. They can’t wait to see friends again and see which ones might be in their class. Signs of September

Really, it is September? I can’t believe it. Seems it was just July 5, when the sun started to shine. I love that those rays have continued to keep our Summer going. But now we have Seattle’s Indian Summer. Too warm for Fall clothes and just cool enough for a light sweater in the evening. You can still add a cozy sweater to that favorite dress and give it a whole new look. All the Fall clothes here at Meadow Boutique will be waiting, because you will need them…..eventually.

This is the time of year the events and holidays start happening like Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Yikes! This is when we look at each other and ask where the time has gone. Seems to happen every year and as I get older, the time just goes by faster. I remember the times as a child when we had Summer vacation and those 3 months seemed to last forever. Years seemed to take so long to get through. All the birthdays and holidays couldn’t come soon enough. That’s why living in this very moment is the most important. Taking in every minute is really the best we can do to not miss a thing. The fun part is getting together with our friends and family for all of these events. We are all pretty much leaving our homes now, no more staying in for fear we will get the virus. We are much more careful in so many ways, so let the rest of the year come and let the fun begin. September is here and we all know the beauty it will bring!

I have been looking in my closet and figuring out how the fashion from Meadow will match up with what I already have. I can always find room for new pieces. Can’t you? Sunshine. Sunshine. Sunshine.

From the words of John Denver; Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy......WE LOVE THIS WEATHER! We wish it would stay longer. Hey, sorry, we need to stay in the moment! We must enjoy every second of the weather being so perfect instead of when it will leave. The days are so bright and beautiful here in Seattle right now. We hope you are out and about enjoying these exquisite days of Summer.

My husband and I went away to the San Juan islands this past weekend. There was Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor, oh my, oh my! Just driving along the coast and stopping to smell the fresh air and feel the wind in my hair. Man, I live for those times. We actually saw some small whales at one of our stops. Breathtaking! Every little place we stopped to eat was wonderful, not sure if it was the food or the fact we could see the harbor and all the boats that made it all taste better. The hike to Heather Lake had panoramic views beyond belief. The lake was big and beautiful and the ducks graced the shores to say hello. The photos I took make me smile and wish I didn’t have to go back to Seattle. When you live in the cement jungle, getting away means so much more. The weather was perfect in the mid 70’s and sunny. My husband and I are close to retirement and times like these make us want to rush the process. Retirement for us will be full of travel and living somewhere besides the USA. On that note - get out there and enjoy your life. You deserve it. You don’t have to go far to take in the beauty of this state.

Awesome August Arrivals

What a beautiful Summer we have enjoyed since July 5. We have at least another month until we start feeling the coolness of Fall come around. So many of you are out and about taking little trips around Washington as to take in this epic weather before school starts again. I know I am leaving for a few days to go hiking around Bellingham and beyond. The air is so fresh and clean it seems and Nature calls to me to do a full emergence into its beauty. Nature always gives me calm and in Washington, the trees are always green against the blue sky. I am quite a talker until I am hiking, then I am as silent as a lamb, taking in all of my surroundings and drowning in them. For me, it is meditative and I seem to find all the answers to the questions that are pending in my life. I suppose we all have the answers if we are quiet enough to listen. Nature gives that to us, all of us!

The sweaters are not heavy, they are soft and cozy, great for cool evenings and layering as the weather changes. The dresses are styles and fabrics that will be perfect for Fall too. The pattern is lovely and the dress is flowy with short bell sleeves. Flattering to say the least. In Seattle, we don’t need heavy sweaters because the weather here does not get that cold in Winter. When I moved back here from Colorado, I donated all my sweaters I wore there because they were way too heavy. The coats I wore were also too much for the weather here. Our Winters are pretty mild and the need for layering is a must. So when you think about Fall, because you will at some point, remember the weight of our sweaters and how well they will do in that layering process.

We have seen a lot of new faces coming into Meadow Boutique this Summer, so I want to kindly remind everyone of our return policy. There is a framed sign at the checkout (it’s been here since Shelley opened) and it says this:

Exchange or store credit within 14 days of purchase. —— Items must be unworn and unwashed. —- SALE items are a final sale.

We do not give cash back within 14 days, only a forever credit or exchange. We are a small boutique with constantly changing merchandise. We usually sell out of a pieces within those 14 days so to put a returned piece out after all the others are gone, can result in it hanging there past a season and us having to put it on sale. We value you all as customers and want you to be happy with your purchase. If something doesn’t work out then please bring it back within those 14 days. We would so appreciate it! For those of you that have shopped at Meadow Boutique a while, you already know the drill and we thank you for adhering to our return policy.

New Arrivals For Fall

I said Fall would come slowly and it is, sprinkled in with the Summer fashion. The Fall pieces are the favorite colors we love. Beiges, blacks, off-whites, rusts, browns. None of us really want to see Fall yet and we aren’t asking you to do so. We just want you to know the Fall pieces are here when you are ready! Never fear, there is still Summer here inside and out on the SALE rack that sits outside the door. We have a wide variety of handbags and interchangeable straps, totes and belts as well. We hope your Summer is amazing and you and your family and friends have managed to connect and reconnect if need be. COVID put a damper on hanging out with each other in previous years, so some people are finally emerging from their homes and feeling more comfortable. You’ve told us you have gained weight during the quarantined months. No matter. No judgement here! Just as long as you know that you should wear clothes that fit your body right now. There’s nothing worse than wearing clothes that are too big. Hiding behind those big of clothes, never works. Just wear clothes that best suit your body type and whatever size you are, you are. We have S, M, L, sometimes XS and sometimes XL. I am 5’9” weigh 145 lbs and I will tell you I can wear all sizes at Meadow depending on the brand. Soooo, just a word of advice, if you see something on the hanger you think you might like, try it on, it just may fit. Fall Coming In Slowly

The word here is SLOWLY! Don’t worry, we still have Summer attire on our racks, but just as quick as Summer came, Fall will arrive. We will slowly be putting out Fall pieces, so don’t let this fashion slip between your fingers. I understand it may be difficult to even think of the coming season because Summer just started here. I know, I am having a hard time too, even though Fall is truly my favorite season. I love all the layering pieces I seem to acquire year after year. Shelley is on top of it this year with our back room packed with so many hues of Fall. But…..I am still hanging in there wearing all of my fun Summer dresses. I feel like August is going to be pretty hot, so we still have time to wear all those lovely Summer clothes……..just be aware that Fall fashion is on the way to Meadow Boutique, slowly but surely. Don’t wait too long to start building your Fall wardrobe!

The Heat Of August

It is 90 degrees today. I am standing at the counter of Meadow Boutique, wondering if anyone will stop in today in need of Summer clothes. We don’t have air conditioning at the boutique but the fans are roaring in full force and the door is closed. The rack of sale dresses are outside the door waiting for customers to come by and get one heck of a deal! In the meantime, it’s still Summer and hot as can be. I wished for the weather to be sunny and warm. I guess I should be careful what I wish for, right? It’s crazy that it is already the end of July and we are heading into August. Luckily, our Summer goes right into September. We are still getting in Summer merchandise, but there are boxes and boxes of Fall in the back room looming….. Get your Summer fashion while you can because the way the weather has been, you are going to need it for a while longer.

I am not going to keep you here reading this blog. You should be outside, or by water soaking up the rays. Take in all the beauty of the Summer and keep it fresh in your mind, because the rain will return at some point and you will want to remember these sunny days.

How’s everyone’s Summer been? We hope you have been enjoying your family, your friends, your weekend trips, your vacations, all of it! The city of Seattle is truly the Emerald City at this time of year. It’s much cooler than many other cities in the country. We have seen lots of visitors coming in to check us out, from all different places. They all share the same sentiment, and that is, Seattle is a beautiful city! It’s not perfect, but for now it is our home.

We all have the opportunity to create our world, our community, our life. We value each and every one of you and are grateful to have you as our customers, no matter the season. Sunshine on my shoulder, makes me happy and it’s July! The colors of everything are better in the Summer, flowers, fruit, vegetables, ice cream, fashion, you name it! It’s so great to see people in Seattle in colors besides, black, grey and beige. People are happier in Summer and so much nicer too! We are so ecstatic that Summer is finally here. We are relishing everyday we have basking in the warmth of the sun and enveloping ourselves in all the colors around us.

Meadow Boutique has tons of colors and styles for Summer. So what’s new this week you ask?

ANGIE is one of our favorites with lovely dresses and kimonos. The colors are stunning and oh so Summer-y. The dresses are short with spaghetti straps for anyone of the age that loves to wear that style. I remember wearing those kinds of dresses when I was young. Now I have to add a light sweater or top over my shoulders! My Décolleté is not what it use to be at 64….LOL At my age we can still make it work with added pieces. So never fear - you are not too old to wear those boho styles you wore in the past. Like I said, there is a way to make them work and sill look like a million bucks! When I hear women say they are too old to wear certain things, I get it. I have my own list of fashion that is past due. If I like something though, I figure out ways to wear it adding as needed to make it age appropriate for my style. There is also a green dip-dry maxi that I have my sites on. I am determined to make it work by throwing on a little shirt or light sweater. At Meadow we are all about at least ….TRYING.

PAINTED THREADS with 2 stylish dresses, that are so flattering. One in a brown color and the other black. I suggest you add some color to both of these dresses. Like pinks and blues in jackets or sweaters, because remember it’s Summer. Browns and blacks and grey and beige, like we Seattleites wear, can change the look when we add pops of color to make Summer come alive. If you need help, come in and ask us and we will help you! Most likely, you have something in that closet of yours to pop a color with any of those neutrals.

SUNGLASSES! We need then now more than ever with that bright Seattle sun. We have so many styles for only $12, so if you lose them you won’t feel too bad. Put a few in your glove box and you will always have them available whenever that sun decides to peak out.

There's also a lovely midi spaghetti strap dress in a steel grey from GILLI. I can see it with some pops of pink or teal or yellow. Also a pair of light denim from MIOU MUSE, cut off at the bottom and wide leg.

And as usual, we have things coming in all the time, so you never know what Shelley might decide to put out on a whim. She does that quite often. That’s what we love about Meadow Boutique, there is always something new, nothing is stagnant in this boutique. We hope we have sparked your interest to come in and check out our merchandise. Summer, Yes Please!

There’s that fact that we all know in Seattle about the weather. Summer doesn’t start til July 5, the day after the 4th of July. This seems to be true. I think this is the first time in a while that it didn’t rain on the 4th. It’s warm, and my Summer clothes are in the closet in full force, ready to wear. The forecast for next week shows it will sunny every…..single…….day! Oh joy!

With all this great weather on the wings, we are sure you need some Summer attire. We have so many summer tops, dresses, skirts, shorts, bralettes, sunglasses, headbands, jeans and shoes. There are gifts for Summer Birthdays and cards for all occasions. We have stuffies for those little people in your life or even the older folks that love to snuggle something soft and cuddly. We pride ourselves on being a one stop shop for everything you will need this Summer! New items come in weekly at Meadow Boutique. I repeat this statement often I know, but it’s one of the many features about us that keeps you coming back, we believe!

This blog post may seem a little short this week, but I am a sunshine girl and I want to soak up every bit of it. I am not going to keep you reading too long this week. Red, White & Blue

The colors of the 4th of July. The colors of our flag. The stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. What this holiday commemorates is the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by delegates from the 13 colonies. On the 4th, the Continental Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence. This is the day we celebrate the birth of the United States of America.

I just know that we have the ability to create change, sometimes it’s long and arduous and sometimes it's within our own little community that we can make a difference. Whatever the case, we must be grateful for the freedoms we do have and keep fighting for the ones that are important to us. If there is one thing I know about us, as American people, we care and we love and we give it our all for things that truly matter to us. In the days to come, lets keep those fireworks lighting inside us! We are in this together, remember? As I type this, I listen to The Star Spangled Banner. It makes me tear up every time. Every game, every time we sing it, it grabs us by the heart strings for some reason. I believe deep down it reminds us of the beginning of our independence and that my friends, is always worth fighting for and getting emotional about!

So what are you doing this weekend? You never know how 4th of July is gonna go around here, and especially with this weird Year Without a Spring we’ve had so far. After two years with few big public events, Seattle-area communities seem eager to celebrate the Fourth of July in style for 2022. We celebrate July 4th here with fireworks, parades, backyard BBQ, fairs, baseball games, shopping for great deals, or enjoying a nice evening out with friends and family. However we choose to celebrate 4th of July, we do so by honoring the the founders of our great nation.

Summer In Seattle

We are ready for Summer. The blue skies with the evergreen trees high above, make my heart sing! Such a beautiful backdrop for our eyes to behold. I was reminiscing with my son-in-law the other day about the show “Here Come the Brides.” Yes, I know this will date me because this show aired in the late 60’s early 70’s (I was 12). The theme song was about Seattle and I still remember the words; the verse went something like this:

The bluest skies you've ever seen in Seattle
And the hills the greenest green in Seattle
Like a beautiful child growing up free and wild
Full of hopes and full of fears
Full of laughter full of tears
Full of dreams to last the years in Seattle
In Seattle

Bobby Sherman was one of the stars of the show. He and his brothers were hired to bring 100 brides back to Seattle. In the series it always showed Seattle being sunny. At that time, I was living in the Midwest and thought it would be really cool to move to Seattle. Little did I know, I would be moving there when I was 14 and would spend most of my life here. To my dismay, it rained all the time. But when Summer came, it was so incredibly beautiful, you somehow forgot all about the rain. No regrets at all, except when we have a Spring like we just had. Seattle is a beautiful place, thus all the people that have settled here is certainly not by accident!

At Meadow Boutique, we are thinking SUMMER! Fun, Sun and dresses to gracing our racks. They just keep coming in and are waiting for you to stop by and grab one for the sunny days that are on the way. There’s short ones, long ones, mid ones. There are great colors! Plus there are some tanks that can be dressed up or down. I could go on, but you can have a look for yourself. Dress-Up For Father's Day

Did you know? That the country’s first Father’s Day was celebrated in 1910, right here in the state of Washington? Sonora Smart Dodd, who was raised by her single father, successfully established the first Father’s Day in Spokane. Her idea spread across the country, and it became an official National celebration in 1972.

Father’s Day celebrates and honors the men who have embraced the essential role of fatherhood. On this day, we also thank fathers and father figures (uncles, grandfathers) for the sacrifices they make, for embracing the responsibility of nurturing and raising children, and for devotion to their family.

This year, Father’s Day falls a couple days before the summer solstice, which makes it the perfect time to kick-off the summer season with a father-focused barbecue, camping trip, beach day, or other outdoor activity! Whether it be treating him to a home cooked meal, surprising him with heartfelt cards, or simply taking a walk together, there are hundreds of way to show your love for pops.

1. Let your dad gobble up the sweet berries and shortcake at not one, but four, local strawberry festivals happening over Father’s Day weekend (through June 19).

2. Learn all about the science of water and keeping Puget Sound healthy while kids make a crafty card for Dad (Saturday, June 18).

3. Take Dad to admire the fancy yachts and hop aboard for a tour at Classic Weekend (Saturday–Sunday, June 18–19).

4. Follow the dads on the IPA trail over to a beer fest that includes a passel of kids’ activities, including inflatables: pretty smart (Saturday–Sunday, June 18–19).

5. Airplane-loving dad? Inspect all the awesome aircraft and look up to catch the amazing aerobatics performed at a local air show (Saturday–Sunday, June 18–19).

6. All aboard! Northwest Railway brings out its historic steam engine for Father’s Day weekend train excursions; buy your tix online (Saturday–Sunday, June 18–19).

7. Car dads — and grandpas — will appreciate all the classic and vintage rides to admire during Father’s Day car shows taking place in Issaquah and in Burien (both Sunday, June 19).

8. In honor of our newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, which is also coincidentally Father’s Day this year, treat your nature dad to a frolic in a state park for free — no Discover Pass needed (Sunday, June 19).

9. Blast off! Dads get in free on Father’s Day at the Museum of Flight, where you can check out Air Force One, the Concorde and lots of other flaying machines (Sunday, June 19).

10. History buff dads might like to explore the 1850s scene, together with their fams, at Fort Nisqually Living History Museum; dads enter free on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 19).

What’ new at Meadow Boutique this week? We are sure you need a new outfit to celebrate Dad! We also have plenty of Father’s Day cards at that can you can pick up for your special dad!

GILLI with a 2 tone linen top, sooo cute. KAN CAN denim has 2 new styles of jeans that you need to have a look and come in and try on. You never know what kind you want to sport unless you try them. We have a lot of styles right now. Light and cropped and dark and distressed. ZENANA has brought in some lightweight sweatshirts in a variety of colors and they have pockets too.

The Colors of June

More, more and more pieces of luscious fashion are still coming into Meadow Boutique. Every week without fail there is inventory coming in that makes us think about Summer. These colors are bright and cheerful. There’s red, there’s mint, there’s yellow and tops with floral patterns. All of our sandals pair nicely with any outfit you put together. Our sunglasses are poised for sun and will complete the look. You can get it all, for any occasion at Meadow. I promise.

We are so happy the weather is getting warmer. The sun is at least starting to shine in between the rainy days. That’s progress. I now know that I am a person who needs to see the sun more than I have this Spring. It’s funny, the past 2 years we had beautiful weather during Covid when we were quarantined. The sun was at least out and it made life a little more manageable. I think we needed that then for sure. I am trying to run through my gratitude list to lift my spirits. In saying all of this, please bring in your sunshiny selves and say hello and bring us some sunshine with your sparkling personalities. No Debbie-Downers allowed. Your smiling faces and kindness bring us joy on these grey days!
