Tis’ the Season to be Jolly

Fa la la la la la la la la. Don we now our gay apparel. Fa la la la la la la la la………Are you singing with me? Just can’t stop singing those Holiday songs. It’s time to get in a festive mood.

It’s really been a challenge this year, but we have to end it on a good note. Through all the trials and tribulations, we are still here, we are healthy, our family is in tact, we made it through and we are all here to tell about it, someday, when it feels right. Just think, you now have a mask to match each outfit and “stylish” and “comfy” have become your middle name. Social distancing is now considered the new way to Love. We are slowing down and putting less pressure on ourselves. We are spending more time in Nature. Working from home is now an option. We are finding more time to exercise. We have taken up cooking more vegetarian than meat eating and baking has become our new creative flow. We are donating more to charitable causes, trying harder to reduce our carbon footprint, and engaging in more political activism. It’s important to note that if you don’t emerge from this pandemic with any great new habits, that is absolutely all right. Sometimes surviving is an accomplishment in itself. Let’s take a moment of silence and bow our heads to remember those families who have lost a loved one from this pandemic, may they find peace and love during this time.

Come in and browse your way around the store. Sometimes you will have the Meadow space to yourself and other times you may share it, but with no more that 5 people. This week we have a some versatile sweater dresses that accessories will spruce up quite nicely or a cute pair of boots or shoes that will change the look completely! There is a wide variety of sweaters to put you in the mood for this holly, jolly season. We have some ornaments that will tickle your fancy, with candles and diffusers and little gifty items. You really have to make your way around the store at least 3 times to see all we have on the racks right now. I was able to find exactly what I need and put some outfits together for my upcoming festivities, albeit at my home with my husband. I am going to look good and in turn, somehow it makes me feel good too. It’s the whole package that will have you shedding that old grinch attitude you might have woke up with this morning! Have a laugh, have a cry, the year is almost over!! It's Christmas! You will hear music in the background at Meadow and smell a candle burning to get you in the shopping mood. We were absolutely delighted to see you and support you like YOU have supported us throughout the years. It truly brings tears to our eyes how you ventured in and were able to put a dent in your gift giving list. We ARE here because of YOU. We have said it before and we are saying it again. We are truly grateful to be part of the Queen Anne Community. You enrich our lives everyday. We have been through this year together and with all that is happening in the world, we are grateful to have you! Small Business Saturday - Shop Local

We hope that your Thanksgiving was full of joy, love and laughter! Although this Thanksgiving was probably different than in the past, being with our loved ones will always be in the forefront of who we are, no matter what is happening in the world!

Now we move into the Holiday Season. Let the shopping begin! Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The goal of Small Business Saturday is to remind consumers that they play a key role in helping the small businesses in their community thrive, and encourage them to get out and shop and dine at local businesses.

You might not realize it, but every time you pick up a cup of coffee from your favorite neighborhood cafe or buy a gift from a local artist's online store, you're shopping small and making a difference. This is a big deal right now for the state of the economy.

Dollars spent with corporate chains quickly fly out of our local economy and don’t come back. Buying locally by consumers, businesses, and local government grows our local economy because of the powerful local multiplier effect. When you spend $100 with a local, independent business, most of that money stays here, paying for local services, supplies, staff, and sometimes inventory. Those businesses then spend most of that money with other local businesses, and so on. Your $100 has just multiplied, each transaction creating on average three times more income, jobs, and wealth for your community. It not only makes intuitive sense, but study after study verifies this powerful contrast.

The Feast of Fashion At Meadow

Can you believe we are about to head into the holiday season now? Where has this year gone? I remember when it was March and we were anticipating the beauty of Spring and then time stood still for a bit. This is the time of year for gratitude and thankfulness as 2020 comes to a close. We know this year has been tough and it is going to take some soul searching to really find things that we can be thankful for. “Resilience” is our middle name. We have proven it over and over through the ages of time.

Every year at this time I find a large jar and decorate it with so many pretty things that make me feel good, like beautiful flowers and colorful ribbon. I buy some interesting paper notes for the year, and write something down everyday that I am grateful for. It can be anything. There is no right or wrong, just something that makes your heart sing that day. Thus the “Gratitude Jar.” This is a great project to do with your family and friends. Kids really love doing this project! You can make an evening of it. I guarantee this will be one of the most enjoyable projects you will do and it can become a ritual. When I am feeling down or sad, I pull one of my notes out of the jar and read what I wrote….it brings me back to being grateful all over again. At the end of the year, I read through them and remember what made me feel grateful each day. Studies have shown regular expressions of gratitude can decrease blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression, and even help you sleep better. So take a drive to your closest craft store and pick up all the necessary materials to make your Gratitude Jar! I promise you will wonder why you didn’t start one sooner. Watch the attitude of gratitude change your household!

Kindness & Fashion-Our Passion

With all that is happening in the world, it’s time to take a minute and think about how we can be kind to each other. I think most of us get caught up in our own lives and the daily busyness that we put on ourselves, forgetting that the simplest of things can make the most significant impact on someone else. Which leads us to World Kindness Day. Although we should be kind to people 365 days a year, November 13th encourages people all over the country to be altruistic to friends, colleagues, and yes, strangers. We should all use this day to bring a smile to someone’s face without expecting anything in return. World Kindness Day is a global day that promotes the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and to the world. It has the purpose is to help everyone understand that compassion for others is what binds us all together. Acts of kindness can range from a small compliment to an inspiring gesture that could be life changing. This understanding has the power to bridge the gap between nations.

Here are only 7 simple ways to practice Kindness in your daily life!

1. Send an uplifting text to a friend or family member

2. Let the guy merge into traffic with a wave & a smile

3. Include intentional moments of kindness, laughter and delight in your daily routine

4. Go slightly out of your comfort zone at least once a day to make someone smile

5. Share a compliment with a co-worker or friend

6. Reach to a family member you haven’t spoken to in a while

7. Treat someone to a cup of coffee ( a friend, a stranger or even yourself)

November Chills & Thrills

As the November winds sweep in and blow and twirl the leaves from the trees all along the streets, Meadow Boutique receives 8 boxes of new arrivals. I know, because I was there unpacking them. It was election day, and people were of course home, glued to their TV’s. Perfect day for me to get everything unpacked, priced, steamed and hung up so you can have a good long look when you decide to come up for air. The colors inside Meadow are the same as the leaves outside! Gorgeous! If you can’t find something to wear for this season then you haven’t looked hard enough. It will take you at least 3 times around the boutique to see all the beautiful sweaters, tops, jackets, scarves, hats and everything in between. You will have to go through every rack and slowly touch each piece to see everything we have right now. Don’t worry we don’t care how long you take. We are always happy to see your smiling eyes. I didn’t think all of the pieces would fit on the racks, but to my surprise they magically did! Oh joy, Oh rapture I am in what we call “Fashion Heaven” and thats a fun, yet dangerous place to be, given my shopping history.

Now what do we have that will tickle your fancy? Oh my goodness, well you can see below for yourselves. I am so impressed by Shelley’s choices. She certainly is up on all the trends. The beauty of our inventory is that any age can wear what is in style right now. It’s all fun filled with luscious fabrics, soft to the touch. We need to feel comfortable in our own skin, right? Then why not have this clothing right up next to your lovely bodies? It also does not matter if you are a small, medium or large. We can’t tell you how many times we have heard that you have 15 pounds of COVID on your body. Who cares, this too shall pass and you might as well look good in the meantime. We are all in this together!

Sometimes we may see something on a hanger and not really feel it will look good on us, but we think it’s a nice piece. Think again….. I have NEVER seen fashion that looks better on a hanger than it does on a beautiful body. So I say try it, what do you have to lose? I bring this to your attention because it has happened to me. Voila, I finally am willing to try something on and I am ready to sign autographs like a movie star! You can feel that way too when you find the perfect piece and you will, I know you will. If for some strange reason you can’t, please, please, please ask for our help. We are well versed in putting things together. I was a personal shopper and visual merchandiser for Nordstrom in my other life and Shelley, well, she has had Meadow Boutique under her wing for 11 years. You need jeans? She is the “Jean Queen,”and that is only one of her many talents in fashion. Just look at the choices you have to pick from every week. Yep, that’s all Shelley! Seasonal goods are here as well. We think that all good cheer should maybe start a little early this year. We have started receiving a wide assortment of candles, holiday tea towels, cards, ornaments and small little gift items to take to any social distanced gathering around the holidays, or to bring joy to those who are near and dear to your heart. This year especially, receiving a gift is meaning so much more than ever before.

We just want you to know that you are in good hands at Meadow! So come on in and let us take you away from all the hustle & bustle of COVID, elections, life, work, kids and all that is happening in the world, albeit for a small amount of time. We enjoy your company, we enjoy your support. You make it all worthwhile for us. Truly! We are so grateful we have each other! At this very moment, that seems to be something we can all hold onto……..so hold tight because the rest of the year is a very short ride ahead and we are almost to the other side. The year of 2021 is close at hand. Can I get an AMEN?

I know, I know, Fall is here and we are scrambling to find that new sweater or warm coat to step into the season. It’s always a bit of a shock to go from our warm Seattle weather to, well, cooler gray skies kind of weather. It seems Fall comes on so quick, right? Never fear - Meadow is here! We have everything to fit your warm and cozy needs right now. Everything seems to be so soft, like PJ’s so we can settle into whatever we need for working or playing at home. There is nothing better than fashion that gives you a feeling of being safe and comfortable in times like these. We have heard you express that you are happy with the way fashion has become so soft & cozy, yet stylish!

If you are on Instagram, you must be seeing all the popular fashion that the influencers are projecting. The sweaters with puffy sleeves, the stretch faux leather leggings, flare jeans, fleecy coats, hats, scarves, animal prints, boots, tye-dye anything, and joggers to name few. I could keep going but I am out of breath. It’s all there online, and it’s all here at Meadow too. I kid you not! Shelley keeps her ears and eyes open for what is on trend and then thankfully brings it to Meadow at a nice price we can all afford. The truth is, we just keep getting more items to add to your wardrobe, yes, every week. I don’t know any other shop around that has such a change in merchandise as often as Meadow. It is so refreshing as a sales consultant, as it must be for you, our customers to always have something interesting and new on the racks. First Stop - Meadow Boutique

So many customers have stopped by this week saying this was the first time they had been in a store since COVID. We have also had quite a few new customers who were just driving by and decided to stop or they have just moved into the neighborhood and wanted to check us out. They professed that they loved the vibe, they loved the clothes and the prices. I guess I hadn’t realized that some people have not felt comfortable enough yet going into a store. We have heard from many people that this whole thing has really stressed them out and they are just now coming up for air. You all have expressed that there will be light at the end of the tunnel and you want to have something fun to wear when that time arrives. Well, we have to say we are grateful you chose Meadow Boutique as your first stop! We have enjoyed meeting you and helping you find something you love that makes you feel special in times like these.

As some of you know, we continue to get new arrivals each week. This is something that peaks the interest of all of our customers. There is always something new to add to your wardrobe. Everything is about being warm now, so sweaters seem to be the staple that everyone is looking for. Never fear, we have them in every style and every Fall color. From short sweaters, to mid length, to sweater dresses. Cozy. Warm. Comfortable. Those 3 words sum up our fashion pieces in Meadow Boutique for October. We also have some of the cutest coats ever…..come in and see for yourself. We have short puffy coats, mid-length and stylish coats that will fit any lifestyle. One beautiful mint colored jacket is reversible, fuzzy on one side and sleek on the other - this is my pick for the week! Oh, and the scarves and hats are slowly hitting our shelves too. The warmth of the seasons colors are quite splendid!

This upcoming holiday season will look a little different than in years past. But regardless, it still offers an opportunity of reflection, celebration, and gratitude for the things you hold most dear.  And that starts with you as our customers! We are finishing our 11th year at Meadow Boutique and heading into our 12th in December. We are excited to share all the new and exciting fashion that we are are known for here in Queen Anne. We have said it before and we will say it again - without you, Meadow would not exist and we sooo appreciate you asking how business has been and how you want to support small businesses like Meadow. Hats off to you for caring and showing us extreme kindness! It means the world to us, really. We are a small boutique with a few employees so we get know people, even behind the masks! 2020 Changes Fashion

I read this article this week in the Washington Post, written by Abha Bhattaral. It really hit home of what we are seeing on the racks at Meadow Boutique and what people are buying, so I thought I would share some of the main points of the article with all of you. We are right in line with what the experts are saying about Fashion in 2020 after the coronavirus has upended just about every part of daily life.

“The longer we stay in this pandemic, the more our relationship with fashion will evolve,” said Dawnn Karen, a fashion psychologist and branding consultant.

Here are five changes in the fashion and beauty industries already taking hold:

Hello, false lashes

Sales of eye makeup are on the rise as Americans look for ways to express themselves behind face masks while staying six feet apart. Leading the charge - false eyelashes. “When you have to go out and you’re wearing a protective face mask, those are the products that emphasize your ‘smize’ — your smiling eyes.”

Goodbye, high heels and stiff dress shoes

“High heels are way down,” said Beth Goldstein, a footwear analyst for NPD. “The question now is whether they’ll ever rebound. Of course, some women out there are dying to put their heels back on. But I think most of them are saying, ‘I’m never going to wear those shoes again.’ ” It’s all about comfort: Slipper sales doubled in April, as Americans splurged on higher-priced options such as fur-lined Ugg products. Crocs, known for their homely but comfortable signature foam clog, also have been “super hot,” she said.

A return to basics

Malls are reopening, but don’t expect to see racks filled with seasonal trends. With money tighter, retailers and consumers are loading up on evergreen basics and neutrals. That has led many retailers to stock up on items such as plain T-shirts, classic-cut jeans, and beige and khaki pieces that won’t fall out of favor if they don’t sell right away. Jeans, joggers and leggings have become among the biggest sellers.

Shorter hemlines

According to common lore — and the century-old Hemline Index — skirts and dresses get longer as the economy worsens. But this time, analysts say, fashion is heading in the opposite direction, away from maxi dresses and floor-sweeping skirts. When business gets bad, you need to make a bold statement to get people to buy something new. And if shoppers already have closets filled with ankle-length styles, that means enticing them with above-the-knee fashion.

Even more casual wear

Corporate America has been retreating from blazers and ties for years, and analysts expect to see more athletic wear and casual attire at the office even after the pandemic is over. When Americans do head back to the office, they’re likely to trade in business casual for “Silicon Valley chic,” said Karen, the fashion psychologist. Think hoodies paired with blazers, and sweatpants with silky tops. “There will be much more mixing and matching between dressing up and dressing down,” she said. “And it’ll be okay to wear the same thing over and over again. The pressure is off.”

Full of October

Have you had a case of the cozies this October? With all the sunny, cooler days we have had it makes us want to snuggle up in our favorite joggers and read a good book or head out with our family and look for a few fun things to do before the weather gets too cold. Meadow Boutique is ready for all your needs during October. We have fashion that will keep you in trend and comfortable, especially for those of you working from home. You will look so put together on those Zoom meetings! We promise! Joggers have been taken to a whole new level. They seem to be right up there with our favorite jeans.

So much is happening til the end of the year. We have Halloween, an Election, Thanksgiving and Christmas. OK, OK go ahead and lie down. It is really too much to think about right now, but getting yourself stocked up for Fall is one of the fun things to think about. I have turned into an absolute clothing addict with all the Fall fashion we have in the boutique right now. On any given day you will see me wearing something that is off the racks. I love all the colors……makes me feel warm and classy all over!

Speaking of warm….I know parents are having to do little projects with their kids for school these days - here’s one the whole family can enjoy or if you don’t have kids at home make it for yourself. I did and I am hooked. Adding a little ice cream to this treat is so delicious. An apple a day will keeps the doctor away! I can picture you right now in your warm joggers and sweater from Meadow having a blast making this kid friendly snack.

Kid Friendly Baked Apples

Warm baked apples are easy for little ones to chew and stuffed with an irresistible streusel topping made from whole grain oats, brown sugar, and spices.

Ingredients

• 1/4 cup oats, dry

• 1/4 cup flour, all-purpose

• 1/4 cup brown sugar

• 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

• 1/4 teaspoon ginger, ground

• 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

• 2 tablespoons butter, unsalted

• 4 medium apples

• 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream or ice cream

Instructions

• Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

• In a bowl add the first 7 ingredients, and use your hands to mix well.

• Core the apples, and cut each in half. Place them in a baking dish, face up, and fill each apple with an even amount of oats. Pack it lightly until heaped over the top. Drizzle with cream. Bake for 40 minutes or until filling is golden and apple is soft.

• Cool for 10 minutes, then serve; add more cream if desired. (or ice cream - my pick)

You got the recipe now all I can say is “Get yourself and your friends into Meadow.” We are packed full with so many Fall pieces. No, I am not kidding, we had 18 boxes arrive in one day. Our racks are full of so many gorgeous Fall colored items. I don’t think I have ever seen the boutique this full since I have worked here. It will take you at lease 3 times around the place to see everything, because there is so much that will catch your eye. Shelley has really put her heart into finding the best and most unique pieces for Fall. I love that not everyone will have the same top, jeans, joggers or jackets that we sell at Meadow. Shelley purchases 6 of each item so when they are gone, well, I‘d like to say that we would get more, but it is highly unlikely. We will always have our regulars like Nature jeans and Dreamer sweaters, so that’s why we put out the blog so you can see what’s new and get in and get it while the getting is good!

There’s something very special in the air at this time of the year. A crisp autumn breeze, crackling log fires and bristling leaves, floating delicately towards the ground, inspire many people to celebrate this picturesque season.

Washington may be the Evergreen State, but in Fall, you’ll find that not all of its flora got the memo. For splashes of golden, fiery leaves amid a sea of green, these are the best spots for gazing upon the seasonal fall foliage in Washington State. Take a drive this weekend. Get inspired by the vibrant colors in Nature, then add them to your wardrobe! Here are a few of the best places for Fall Foliage in our beautiful state according to the Thrillist website. Keep in mind that trees at high elevations turn first, in early to mid-October, while those at lower elevations are best viewed later in the month. These places are as socially distant as fun gets.

2. Whidbey Island Scenic Isle Way - As far as foliage is concerned, Whidbey has lots of oak trees, so you’ll see yellow and red hues all over the island.

3. Leavenworth - The drive north from Seattle to Leavenworth via Highway 2 is spectacular; don’t rush it. You’ll get foliage views from your car as good as any on a nature trail.

4. Chuckanut Drive - Washington is full of natural beauty, but Chuckanut Drive -- also known more plainly as highway 11 -- was the *first* scenic drive in the state. If you’re starting at the south end, the first half of this 21-mile drive will take you through the foliage of Larrabee State Park (the oldest state park in Washington).

5. North Cascades Highway - There are plenty of places to pull over and take in the view on this route (as well as a bunch of trailheads nearby), but we recommend the Diablo Lake Overlook -- because of powdery deposits from surrounding glaciers, the water has an incredible turquoise color that’s a must-see. 

6. Mt Baker Snoqualmie - Nestled in the slopes of the Cascade Mountains between Mt. Rainier and the Canadian border is where you’ll find Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest -- a 2,694-square mile expanse of wildlife and foliage. When the leaves turn yellow and orange and the fall air feels extra fresh, you’ll want to stay awhile.

Now that you have some places to view the trees changing colors, be sure to stop by Meadow Boutique and see all of our Fall color fashion that have been changing into stunning hues. There is also a jean jacket with a removable fur collar. Last by not least, we have a line of felt hats with a medium and wide brim in a variety of colors. We also have a some wonderful hand poured soy candles just in this week. The scents are perfect for any home. I have one burning as I write and it is called Urban Flower Market. It has a lovely hint of jasmine. There are so many other scents to chose from, so check it out, they are all displayed at the front of the boutique.

It’s fun to watch the season change at Meadow. It makes me feel so warm and cozy all over. I hope you will come in and see for yourself all that we have to offer in Fall Fashion! Top it Off

Well, “to top it off,” the smoke is hurting our eyes and breathing has become difficult if you go outdoors. Fires are raging up and down the coast and we seem to be in the top 3 worst places in the world for air quality. If you have to drive, that seems to be a difficulty as well with how far you can see in front of you. Just another item to add to the list of the year 2020. We are only reminding you of these things because we know how strong you are. We know that you will figure out ways to make these times feel some kind of normal. Let’s hope someday we will be sitting around talking about 2020 and all we endured with ease. We might even have a little laugh or two about how many masks we all collected. My question is: Will we need to recycle them?

We have a feeling the masks are going to be a staple for us moving forward for a while. In Asia, they wear masks all year round because of poor air quality. They wear masks during flu seasons and in airports to protect themselves from any airborne germs. I lived in Thailand for a few years and wearing masks was really nothing to them. It was part of life. I will say our air quality right now is worse than it was in Thailand when they burned the rice fields February thru May. The masks we wore there were highly protective and not very stylish! At Meadow Boutique, we have some of the most fun, stylish masks around. They are here if you need a new one and we will have them for a long time to come, so let’s just call that normal, shall we? Many of us are in denial about the masks and that’s OK too, but we all have to be respectful of each other and wearing a mask right now shows the ultimate respect. We want to thank you for wearing your mask in the Boutique. We appreciate it very much.

Now let me get off my soapbox and talk about the new arrivals. This week we are all about Double Zero Brand tops. We have crew neck sweaters in many wonderful colors for Fall. We have some t-shirts, because they never go out of style. The new jackets are super stylish and I have my eyes on one in particular. Can you guess which one? We have some Gilli jumpsuits and dressy joggers and tops along with a cozy jogger set by Cherish that will surely interest you. Remember, we only get a couple of size runs for each piece, so not that we want you to feel anxious or anything, but …..well. You get the picture, as soon as this goes out to the masses we get a rush in the store to get the goods. Now, is also the time to get those Nature jeans in dark or grey wash because we have a full size run. We have so many great tops right now, in all the Fall colors, just like the leaves turning outside. Splendid Iris Jewelry is back and fully stocked with fun earrings and necklaces of many styles. We love that we are able to get new things in the Boutique every week for our customers. We love everything about the shopping experience we provide for you at Meadow Boutique. We feel so comfortable with all of you trying on our merchandise and showing us how things fit and what you like about it and what you don’t. It really helps us because we all are different body types. Shelley takes a lot of time choosing all the right pieces and she thinks of people specifically when she orders and how things would look on different customers. It is truly an art to know that about your customers like she does. In December, it will be 11 years since Shelley opened Meadow Boutique’s doors. The only time she has had to close somewhat, was due to Covid and you supported us through that and because of you our doors are still open. Because of you! It’s always been because of you and all your support that makes Meadow Boutique what it is today! And to “top it off” nothing compares to our connection with all of you! Remember that, will you? Sweaters Calling Your Name

While you have been getting your kiddos plugged into school this week, we have been patiently waiting for our order to come. With the fires raging up and down the west coast and the Labor Day holiday, well, lets just say we got skipped on the UPS route this week. It’s ironic that our candle order came in and our Fall wear is out there somewhere in a lonely post office on the other side of the country. That’s OK - the few things that did come in are sure to remind you that Fall is right around the corner even though we are having temperatures in the 80’s. Enjoy every minute of the sun and take in those last minute getaways on the weekends before we really have to think about the shorter days and cold months ahead.

We are going to keep this short and sweet this week. We are sure you have lots on your mind on how you will juggle what is left of this year. Never in our lifetimes did we think we would see or live though all that is happening in the world. One thing we do know, is that we are grateful for the many ways our lives have changed, as crazy as that sounds. It seems that there has been a silver lining in the most hardest of times. There is comfort in knowing that we are all in this together and at any given moment we understand what each other is going though.

At Meadow Boutique we want to lighten your load in any way we can, so don’t be afraid to let us! Retail therapy has always brought us back to life. Even if you are just trying on clothes and taking a day for yourself. We have your back and will continue to practice all safety precautions so you feel comfortable. We seem to be packing in the sweaters and warm and cozy clothing. There are sweaters here with your name on them. We are completely stocked with dark wash and grey wash Nature jeans. We also have a sale rack outside too with lots of Summer items that are worth having in your wardrobe at a nice discount. We have heard how older people are feeling a little lonely these days and they need some cheering up. We have something for them as well. Stop in and pick up something for that special senior in your life, like a candle or some soap or hand cream. We also have gift cards for that special teacher or girl friend in the neighborhood. Whatever you need, we have something that will fit your budget.

The Season of Change

With the leaves going from green to red and the winds changing from warm to cool, it is no wonder Autumn is considered the season of change. But it’s not just the environment that changes. Autumn heralds in a time of transition and invites us to embrace the energy of change. Of course, change can be uncomfortable and many of us may find ourselves desperately attempting to hide from this transitory season. But transition can also be exciting and beautiful if we meet it with acceptance rather than fear.  This is where “we are all in this together” comes into play! You are not alone so please reach out to others in the way you are comfortable and scream and jump up and down if you have to. Get out all that frustration of how things are and have been in 2020 that are not letting you move forward into this beautiful season. Then remember all the good things that have perpetuated through all of this. I know, somedays it is hard. We have all been there so let’s do whatever it takes to feel better, we all deserve that. Here’s a few ideas to take in and see if any of them can work for you.

1. Transition towards stillness - Autumn is about a quieter kind of transition. Now is the time to start slowing down and preparing for winter. Start creating more space in your schedule for you time. Plan a few less social outings. Designate specific time for quiet practices that will help you move inward. Things like meditation, journaling, or spending a few minutes at dawn just sitting in nature. 

2. Let the change come to you - It is important to consider how you approach change in autumn. It is a time for stepping back and letting the change come to you. Instead of seeking out opportunities, open the door, sit back, and let the change come to you. This change is going to be different than what you saw in spring; it will be less about embracing new and more about letting go of the old. Which brings us to the third way to make the most of autumn.

3. Practice the art of letting go - Autumn is the time to re-evaluate what things we are holding onto that we know longer need. It’s a time to shed the old habits and patterns that no longer serve us. It’s a time to release, relax, and make more space in our lives for those things that matter most.

4. Stay grounded in your roots - Turn to the ones who love you unconditionally; find safe spaces where you can relax and be with your thoughts; dedicate time explicitly for self-care. The more grounded you feel in yourself and your community, the easier it will be to let go of that which is no longer serving you.

5. Seek out things that nourish - Eat warming, nourishing foods. Take baths, cuddle with a blanket, re-read your favorite book, spend time with your loved ones, or go for a hike on a tree-filled path. Whatever nourishes you, gravitate toward that. 

6. Shop at Meadow - We have everything you need to transition into Autumn. The sweaters, jogger sets in two colors, worded t-shirts, cardigans, sweet hooded jackets, fleeced flannels, cozy sweatshirts and always our jeans - all those warming up pieces are coming in fast and furious and you don’t want to miss a thing. Stocking Up For Fall

That’s right….it’s time. Fall is right around the corner so no need to wait to grab clothing that will transition you right into the cooler weather. I am always in awe of our beautiful late Summer and early Fall weather. The Northwest is a great place to be during this time. We live in a climate that we can layer up and then remove pieces as needed. That certainly makes for very interesting outfits around town. I don’t know about you, but we are ready….so bring on the Fall colors and comfy clothes since we are mostly working from home. We know that many of you want to get in the groove of getting dressed and looking nice, even if you are not leaving the house. There’s all those Zoom Meetings you have to attend and happy hours and kids play dates, and the list goes on. We don’t want you to miss a beat.

This week it’s all about sweaters and jogger sets and jeans and jumpsuits and bralettes. Sounds like a good combo right? We are just easing you in slowly because there is so much more on the way. Make your list, check it twice. What pieces do you need to add to your wardrobe? You will not break the bank at Meadow Boutique, so find pieces that you love and go for it. It’s time to get comfy cozy and warm. It will feel like Summer one day and then it will cool off into Fall so you want to be ready!

Seasons In Between

We seem to all be enjoying these beautiful days we have been given in August. The weather has been so incredible, that it’s is hard to believe that Fall is right around the corner. But it is, and I need some new Fall clothes, what about you?

With all that’s happening in the world we want some kind of normalcy. This is the time of year we usually go school shopping for the kids and refresh our own wardrobes with new Autumn hues. We love that feeling of soft sweaters, cozy joggers and lightweight jackets. Sitting by a fire with hot cocoa and marshmallows comes to mind. OK OK, I am getting ahead of myself but I must remind you of the fact that Meadow Boutique is slowly receiving it’s Fall fashion, the in-between pieces that will get you from August to September in price and style! Our lives have become a bit more casual since we are working from home, playing from home and schooling from home. With that in mind, we still need to get up and get going with our lives and while we are at it, we should look amazing too!

Our new arrivals this week will surely spark your interest and inspire you to give your wardrobe a refresh! Light textured sweaters in 3 colors, lovely soft sweaters; some basic, some with dolman sleeves, and a light weight jacket that shows up in a deep green and rust color! Then to make things real cozy, we have some jogger separates and tops that would interchange quite nicely with each other. My favorite this week is the animal print slip-ons. Oh my, they will definitely make an entrance with any outfit you decide to wear with them. We have all washes of the Nature jeans that will add to any fall sweater or top. We even have masks that are constantly replenished so you can match them up with whatever you are wearing. To sum it up, I would say we have some pretty fashion forward transitional pieces that you are going to love! Stop by and see for yourself.

Just to keep things real - our hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday - 12-5 and Friday & Saturday 12-6. We are closed on Mondays. We will be sure to let you know if that changes. Seven people are allowed in the shop at one time. You may try clothes on because we are constantly steaming the ones you don’t want. We wear masks in the boutique and ask that all that enter wear one too. And last but not least, there is hand sanitizer everywhere for your convenience. It is important to us that you feel safe and we feel safe too! Thank you for coming in and shopping with us. It has been a joy to see you all resurfacing again. We appreciate the adjustments you have made when shopping with us! It certainly means more than you know. Somehow we knew we could count on you to make the transition we all have to adhere by ….well, flawless! We look forward to seeing you soon and helping you find something you can’t live without.

A Little Bit of Everything

That’s right - you heard me right! The new arrivals this week are a “little bit of everything.” The pieces that arrived can still be your Summer attire and then some will transition you into Fall. I said it, yes, Fall. It seems like it was just Spring not long ago. It’s the time of year when kids start thinking about going back to school and getting all the items they will need for a successful school year. It’s different this year with kids learning online, but school clothes are still in order. So while you are buying those new clothes for your kids, remember you could possibly be their teacher, so you want to look your best as well.

In quarantine, the self-expression of clothing has been somewhat lost to the monotony of sweatpants and T-shirts. Without being able to go out, with no one to impress and no reason to get dressed up, people who view clothing as a form of their personal identity have struggled with the reality of quarantine. For some, clothing also helps people to transition from work to exercise to leisure, and without having to get dressed up for different parts of the day, time begins to bleed together. It seems like some clothing companies understand the psychology at play here. I’ve been getting promotional emails from clothing stores telling me to “treat myself” and from Target advertising its “mood-boosting” graphic T-shirts.

If there’s one item to come out of COVID-19 and define the aesthetic around the world, it’s the face mask. With the CDC currently recommending that people wear cloth facial coverings in public settings, it's likely to become the most ubiquitous item, next to sweats and leggings. We are selling face masks so fast at Meadow Boutique and we have to admit we all looking for a mask to match each of our outfits we are sporting each day.

So there will be a time when this passes and we can get dressed up again for different occasions. Here’s to dressing up, enjoying feel-good trends like eco-friendly fabrics and calming colors, and wearing clothes that define our individual aesthetic once again. We say everyday is an occasion. You are alive. You have your family and friends. You have your pets in which to snuggle. You have a home to live and love in and healthy food to eat. Hopefully, most of you still have a job and are making the proper adjustments to look at work in a new way that creates more time for you and your family!

August Is Here - New Arrivals & A Special Event

It’s August already. It’s hard to believe, really. Our brain seems to want to go back to March, April and May and try to figure out how this year has gone by so fast. Now we slowly start cooling off a bit and needing a little extra cover-up. Of course we have new pieces this week that we are sure you will want to add to your wardrobe. With rompers still in the mix and some short light & corduroy jackets, bird & cat sweatshirts and a really colorful bohemian, funky dress, there is something for everyone. We also have a couple of tops - floral and also a very unique top that pictures the different stages of the moon, a staple that will surely pair with your favorite jeans or jacket.

Meadow Boutique is full of surprises this weekend! On Saturday we have a special treat for you. From 12-4, we will have a special pop-up shop with handcrafted jewelry by Leah Pastrana. You don’t want to miss this event. This jewelry will be a favorite for you when you see Leah’s style.

Leah Pastrana is a Seattle Native, Mexican and Irish blood and a UW graduate. Her work has a modern focus using multiple geometric shapes as well as mixing gold and silver metals in her pieces. Her most recent work blends raw brass components using African glass and tribal beads. She also has started a line of repurposed leather and faux leather earrings.

Each piece that she creates is a wearable piece of art. Leah loves geometric shapes and mixed metals. She uses raw brass, sterling silver and gemstones. Her goal has always been to create affordable handmade jewelry. Leah’s jewelry is modern, minimalist with an edge.

“Creating jewelry started as an outlet for my need to express my feelings about the world and my experiences in it. I am inspired by vibrant colors, travel, songs, movies and people. Each person that I have met in my life has a story. Whether positive or negative I learn and grow from each story. I am blessed.”

Cool Off at Meadow

Is it hot enough for you? We certainly aren’t complaining about the heat or the sun as we get it so few days here in Seattle. In the middle of Summer, we have those sweltering days we aren’t use to, that leads us searching for somewhere to hang out that is cool. Or at least find something to wear that keeps the sweat at bay. When the sun shines here, there is nothing more beautiful than our blue skies with the green trees as a backdrop. It truly takes our breath away.

July is coming to a close, so you know what that means? We have to soak it all in before it is over in a month or so. At Meadow we certainly have something that will look amazing on you. We have fashion that will keep you cool and relaxed. Picture this: you sitting in the back yard, with a lovely refreshing drink of your choice in hand, feet propped up on your favorite lounger, kids on their best behavior, significant other by your side, food being delivered, and you, well your dressed in one of our new rompers, cool as a cucumber. We can see you now. Awwww, pinch me, am I dreaming?

And that’s what we have this week - light weight rompers, some flowy ribbed pants, basic paper bag pants, and a stylish gingham dress you can wear with a belt or let it hang loose. We do have some fun belts this week too. Don’t forget about the past weeks as well with the skirts and sweatshirts, we still have a few pieces left. It’s never too late to browse through this blog and see if there are some pieces you might like to ask us about. Sometimes there is just one left waiting for you! If anything, come in for a mask. We have plenty of colors and materials you will love. We will be carrying them as long as they are needed.

Tell Me Something Good

Today when I was checking out at Trader Joes, the cashier asked me how my day was going, the typical friendly greeting. Then he said, “With everything going on in the world, tell me something good, something that makes you grateful?” I have to say it caught me off guard at first, but then I thought why not focus on the positive. I didn’t stop to think about it, I just said what first came to my mind. “I am grateful that I am healthy and I haven’t gotten sick during this pandemic,” I said.

Seriously, things could be so much worse for all of us. If we can just jot down 5 things we are grateful for every morning, imagine how our day would turn out. I have done exactly that for a while now, so before I get out of bed, I count my blessings and go through my check list of what I am grateful for. It has made a huge difference in my outlook considering all that is happening in our world, our state, our city and our communities. It doesn’t have to be big things, it can be little things like seeing flowers blooming outside your window, smelling the coffee brewing in the morning, hearing your children laughing, or getting a call from a friend just to see how you are doing.

All of those small things add up to big things putting one big beautiful smile on that face of yours. It’s hard to see smiles right now, but our eyes tell it all. We have seen your smiling eyes walk through the doors of Meadow Boutique and I have to say we feel so grateful! It’s the little things you all do to make us feel good. It feels like old friends getting together when you are shopping with us and chatting it up. There is noting better right now than the exchange of human connection. So next time you come in - tell us something good that’s going on with you. We are interested, believe me.

This week, like every week, Shelley makes a point to always insure that fashion is forever changing in the boutique, with all our new arrivals. This week we have a few Gilli jumpsuits, a couple of delightful oh so detailed skirts, shirt type dresses that cinch up on the side for a little added interest, a variety of sweatshirts for those cool evenings when you are venturing out in nature or on the water, and last but not least, some super cute espadrille sandals.
